How to clean Sage Barista Touch steam wand

  • How to Clean the Sage Barista Touch Steam Wand

The Sage Barista Touch automatically purges its steam wand after milk texturing, but the outside of the wand still needs cleaning after every use. If milk is allowed to dry around the steam tip, the holes can become restricted and milk-texturing performance can deteriorate.

    What You'll Need

    • A clean, damp cloth
    • The supplied steam-wand cleaning tool
    • Hot water for stubborn blockages

For everyday cleaning, you normally only need a damp cloth and the machine's automatic purge function.

  • How to Clean the Steam Wand After Use

    1. Remove the milk jug

Once milk texturing has finished, lift the steam wand and remove the milk jug.

    2. Wipe the steam wand

Immediately wipe the steam wand thoroughly with a clean, damp cloth. Don't allow milk residue to dry onto the wand.

    3. Lower the steam wand

Return the steam wand to its lowered position.

    4. Allow the automatic purge to run

When the wand is lowered, the Barista Touch automatically purges the steam wand. Allow this process to finish so residual milk is cleared from inside the wand.

  • If the Steam Wand Is Blocked

If steam performance has reduced or one or more of the holes in the steam tip are blocked, the Barista Touch has a dedicated cleaning procedure.

Open the Settings menu on the touchscreen and select Steam Wand Cleaning. Follow the instructions displayed by the machine.

Use the supplied steam-wand cleaning tool to clear blocked steam-tip holes when instructed.

If the steam wand remains blocked, the steam tip can be removed so it can be cleaned more thoroughly before being securely refitted.

  • Finishing the Clean

Once the steam tip and holes are clear:

    1. Make sure the steam tip is securely fitted.
    2. Wipe the complete steam wand clean.
    3. Lower the wand into its normal position.
    4. Allow the machine to complete its purge.
    5. Check that steam flows normally before preparing your next milk drink.

Engineers Tip

Wipe first, then lower the wand. Lowering the steam wand starts the automatic purge, so cleaning the outside immediately after removing the milk jug prevents hot milk from drying onto the wand while the purge cleans the inside. If milk performance starts to deteriorate despite daily wiping and purging, check the steam-tip holes rather than immediately assuming there's a heating fault. Even a partial milk blockage can noticeably reduce steam performance.
