WHAT YOU'LL NEED

A suitable espresso machine descaler, fresh drinking water, a container to collect discharged water and access to the Sage Oracle Jet touchscreen. Allow approximately 10 minutes for the guided programme.

01

PREPARE YOUR ORACLE JET

Switch on the machine and allow it to reach its ready state. Remove the portafilter from the group head, empty the drip tray and refit it securely. Ensure the machine is positioned on a stable, level surface.

02

OPEN THE SETTINGS MENU

On the colour touchscreen, select the cog icon in the top right-hand corner. This opens the machine settings, where the cleaning and maintenance programmes can be accessed.

03

SELECT DESCALE CYCLE

Find and select 'Descale Cycle' in the Settings menu. If the machine has already displayed a descaling reminder, you can also begin from that notification. Follow the instructions displayed on the touchscreen.

04

PREPARE THE DESCALING SOLUTION

When instructed, remove the water tank and any fitted water filter if prompted. Prepare the descaling solution using the correct quantity of descaler and water specified for your product and the machine's on-screen instructions. Refit the water tank securely.

05

START THE DESCALING PROGRAMME

Position a suitable collection container beneath the dispensing outlets as directed on screen. Confirm the next stage to begin circulating the descaling solution through the machine. Hot water may be discharged during the programme.

06

ALLOW THE CYCLE TO RUN

Leave the Oracle Jet to complete the programmed descaling stages. Water flow may start and stop automatically. Avoid interrupting the programme, removing the water tank or switching off the machine while it is operating.

07

RINSE WITH FRESH WATER

When the touchscreen requests fresh water, remove the tank, discard any remaining descaling solution and rinse the tank thoroughly. Refill with fresh drinking water and reinstall. Empty and reposition the collection container as required, then continue the guided rinsing programme.

08

COMPLETE THE DESCALING CYCLE

Wait until the touchscreen confirms the programme has finished. Empty and rinse the drip tray, check the water level and refit or replace the water filter as appropriate. Your Oracle Jet is ready for normal operation once the machine returns to its ready screen.

IMPORTANT

Always use the Oracle Jet's built-in descaling programme rather than manually circulating descaler through the coffee or hot water functions. Follow the touchscreen instructions if they differ from the general preparation steps above. Never use vinegar or mix different descaling chemicals.

FAQ's

  • How often should I descale my Sage Oracle Jet?

The Sage Oracle Jet displays a maintenance notification when descaling is required. The frequency depends on water hardness, usage and the effectiveness of your water filter. As a general maintenance check, inspect the water system approximately every three months and descale when prompted or when mineral deposits become visible in the water tank.

  • Can I descale my Sage Oracle Jet without waiting for the reminder?

Yes. Open Settings using the cog icon in the top right-hand corner of the touchscreen and select Descale Cycle. The machine will guide you through the process, even if a descaling notification has not appeared.

  • Is descaling the same as running a coffee cleaning cycle?

No. Descaling removes mineral deposits from the internal water system, while the coffee cleaning cycle removes coffee oils and residue from the group head and brewing components. Both maintenance procedures are important and must be carried out separately.

Engineer Tip

A water filter helps reduce mineral deposits, but it does not completely eliminate the possibility of scale forming inside your Oracle Jet. Pay particular attention to your local water hardness and ensure the machine's water hardness setting is correct. If you notice reduced water flow or inconsistent dispensing, check for scale buildup before assuming an internal component has failed. Always complete the full rinsing stage after descaling to remove any remaining cleaning solution.
