How to descale Sage Barista Touch

  • How to Descale a Sage Barista Touch

The Sage Barista Touch has a built-in Descale Cycle that guides you through the process on its touchscreen. A pop-up message will appear when descaling is due, but you can also start the cycle manually through the Settings menu.

    What You'll Need

Before starting, have the following ready:

    • A suitable coffee machine descaling solution
    • Fresh cold water
    • A suitable container for collecting discharged water
    • Access to the water tank and drip tray

Descaling is different from the Barista Touch Clean Cycle. Descaling removes mineral and scale build-up from the internal water system, while the Clean Cycle removes coffee oils and residue from the group head.

The Barista Touch manual warns that the water tank should never be removed or completely emptied while the descale cycle is running.

  • How to Launch the Descale Cycle

    1. Wait for the reminder or start it manually

The Barista Touch displays a pop-up message when it's time to descale. You don't have to wait for the reminder if you can see scale build-up in the water tank.

    2. Switch the machine on

Allow the Barista Touch touchscreen to load normally.

    3. Open Settings

Touch the Settings icon in the upper-right corner of the touchscreen.

    4. Select Descale Cycle

Scroll through Settings and select Descale Cycle. This launches the Barista Touch's guided descaling programme.

  • Follow the On-Screen Prompts

Once Descale Cycle has been selected, follow each instruction displayed on the Barista Touch touchscreen.

The machine guides you through the remaining procedure, so follow the prompts in the order shown and allow the complete descale programme to run.

Do not remove or completely empty the water tank while descaling is underway.

  • Finishing the Descale Cycle

Follow the touchscreen instructions through to the end of the programme, including any rinsing and fresh-water instructions displayed by the machine.

Once the Barista Touch confirms that the cycle has finished:

    1. Make sure the water tank contains fresh water.
    2. Empty and rinse the drip tray if required.
    3. Clean away any descaling solution that may have splashed onto the machine.
    4. Return the machine to normal operation.

Don't stop the procedure simply because the initial descaling solution has passed through the machine — allow the complete guided cycle to finish.
