quick tips

  • Set the water hardness correctly

The CM5510 uses your water hardness setting to decide when descaling is due. Factory setting is level 3, but hard-water homes may need level 4.

  • Do not overfill the ground coffee chute

The manual says the chute takes a maximum of 12 g. Too much ground coffee can trigger the “Too much ground coffee” message.

  • Use cold milk below 10°C

For proper froth, Miele recommends cold cow’s milk below 10°C with at least 3% protein.

  • Only move the grinder one step at a time

The CM5510 has 5 grinder settings. Miele says the new setting only takes full effect after the second coffee.

  • Use Coffee Pot mode carefully

The CM5510 can make up to 6 cups, max 0.75 litres. It can only be used twice in a row, then the machine needs one hour to cool.

  • Clean the milk pipework at least every 5 days

The manual specifically says the milk pipework must be cleaned at least every 5 days, with weekly and monthly cleaning routines recommended.

FAQ's

  • Why does my Miele CM5510 say “Fill and replace the water container” when it is already full?

The water tank may not be seated correctly, the tank area may be damp, or the water container filter may need cleaning. The manual also notes this can happen if the tank was not filled to the correct descaling mark during descaling.

  • Why is my CM5510 milk sputtering or only giving hot milk?

The milk may be too warm, the central spout may not be assembled correctly, the milk pipework may be blocked, or the steam jet may need cleaning with the supplied brush.

  • Why does the CM5510 show “Fill bean container” even when beans are inside?

This can happen with oily dark-roast beans because oils cling to the bean container and stop beans flowing properly into the grinder. Clean the bean container more often or try less oily beans.
