  • Remove the AquaClean filter and test the machine

Take the AquaClean filter out of the water tank, refill the tank and try dispensing hot water. If water starts flowing again, the filter is either restricted or was not prepared correctly. A poorly prepared filter can cause the machine to draw air instead of water.

  • Prime the AquaClean filter before refitting it

Shake the filter for about 5 seconds, then immerse it upside down in cold water and shake/press it to release trapped air. Insert it vertically onto the connection in the water tank and push it fully down. An air-filled filter can produce a loud pump noise with little or no water flow.

  • Push the water tank completely into position

Remove the tank and reinstall it firmly. If it isn't fully seated, the machine can draw air into the water circuit. This is particularly relevant when the pump can be heard running but the machine isn't drawing water.

  • Try the hot-water function

Test whether the machine can dispense hot water rather than repeatedly trying to make coffee. If hot water flows normally but coffee doesn't, the problem is more likely to be in the coffee path rather than the main water supply. Check the brew group and coffee outlet for contamination or blockage.

  • Clean the brew group and coffee path

If the pump operates and hot water works but coffee won't dispense, remove and rinse the brew group. Also check the coffee dispensing outlet and pre-ground coffee chute for compacted coffee. These restrictions can make a working machine appear to have a water-pumping problem.

  • Descale if water flow has gradually become weaker

A gradual reduction in water flow can indicate limescale restricting the internal water circuit. If the machine is due for descaling, complete the full Calc/Clean procedure. Remove the AquaClean filter before beginning the descaling programme.

FAQ'S

FAQ'S

  • Why can I hear my Philips 3200 pump but no water is coming out?

The pump may be trying to draw water but receiving air instead. Remove the AquaClean filter first and test again. Also remove and firmly reinstall the water tank. An incorrectly prepared AquaClean filter or poorly seated tank can allow air into the water circuit.

  • Why did my Philips 3200 stop pumping after changing the AquaClean filter?

The new filter may contain trapped air. Remove it, shake it for approximately five seconds and immerse it upside down in cold water while shaking/pressing it to release the air. Reinstall the prepared filter fully into the water tank and activate it correctly.

  • My Philips 3200 dispenses hot water but won't make coffee. Is the pump faulty?

Probably not. If the machine can produce a normal stream of hot water, the pump and water supply are functioning. Concentrate on the coffee path: remove and rinse the brew group and check the coffee outlet and pre-ground coffee chute for blockages. If neither coffee nor hot water flows, investigate the tank, AquaClean filter, trapped air and limescale first.
