Depending on the model, a problem may instead be shown through flashing lights, illuminated symbols or a combination of indicators. The meaning varies by machine, so always match the warning to your specific model before troubleshooting.

  • All Lights Flash Three Times – Brew Temperature Error

    On the Russell Hobbs Café Genie 28760, all lights flashing three times can indicate that a brew function was selected before the machine reached the correct brewing temperature. The machine will cancel the request and return to preheat mode. Allow it to finish heating before selecting your drink again.

  • All Lights Flash Three Times – No Water Flow

    The Café Genie 28760 also uses three flashes of all lights when it detects no water flow during brewing. The machine cancels the brew and returns to standby. Check that there is water in the tank and that it is correctly fitted. If the machine has attempted to operate without water, the manual states that it must be primed again before use.

  • Milk Drink Lights Flash Three Times

    If the Latte, Cappuccino, Cortado, Macchiato and Flat White indicators flash three times on the Café Genie 28760, check the milk tank. This warning occurs when a milk-based function is selected but the milk tank has not been installed correctly. Refit the tank; an audible click confirms correct installation.

    On the Russell Hobbs 26451, the preheat P icon, countdown segments and flashing ! caution icon can appear if you attempt to brew coffee, produce steam or dispense hot water before the machine has reached the required temperature. Allow the preheat process to complete before trying the function again.

  • Clean Icon on the Russell Hobbs 26451

    The 26451 displays its clean icon after approximately 500 cycles to indicate that descaling is due. This is a maintenance warning rather than a fault that immediately prevents coffee making; the manual states that the machine will continue operating, but the icon remains illuminated until it has been reset following descaling.

    On the 26451, the G icon is the ready indication, not a fault. During preheating, the six display segments progressively count down alongside the P icon. Once the segments have gone out and the G icon illuminates, the machine has reached operating temperature and is ready.

    This may look like a fault even though no specific error code is displayed. The 26451 requires a short cooling period after steaming or frothing before it can brew again. After several steam operations, the machine can become hot enough to temporarily prevent brewing. The manual notes that the hot-water function can be used to help the machine cool more quickly.

    Not every Russell Hobbs fault produces a warning light. For the 26451, documented causes of no espresso include an empty water tank, blocked portafilter or sieve, a machine requiring descaling, or incorrect coffee grind.
