How to Clean a De'Longhi Magnifica Evo Milk System

Quick Tips

Quick Tips

  • Fill and Refit the Water Tank

Remove the water tank and fill it with fresh water. For this procedure, make sure the tank is at least half full.

Refit the tank firmly and make sure it is sitting correctly in the machine. If the tank is not fully seated, water may not be able to enter the machine correctly.

  • Remove the Water Filter Temporarily

If your Magnifica Evo has a water filter installed inside the tank, remove it temporarily while trying to refill the water circuit.

This removes the filter as a possible restriction while you establish whether the machine can draw water directly from the tank. Leave the filter out until you have established a reliable water flow.

  • Fit the Hot-Water Spout

Fit the removable hot-water spout securely into its connection on the front of the Magnifica Evo.

Place a suitable cup or container underneath the spout before continuing. The hot-water circuit provides the route used to establish water flow and purge air from the system.

  • Run the Hot-Water Function

With the tank filled, the filter removed and the hot-water spout installed, press the Hot Water button.

Allow the machine to attempt to draw water from the tank and dispense it through the hot-water spout.

Initially the flow may be interrupted while air is being cleared. What you are looking for is a continuous supply of water from the hot-water outlet.

  • Repeat the Flush Once if Necessary

If the first attempt does not establish a steady water flow, run the hot-water procedure one more time.

Air trapped in the water circuit may not always clear immediately, particularly if the water tank has previously been allowed to run completely empty.

Once a continuous flow of water is established, stop repeatedly priming the circuit and test the machine normally.

  • Test the Machine Before Refitting the Filter

Once you have a steady flow from the hot-water spout, try preparing a coffee with the water filter still removed.

If the Magnifica Evo now works normally, but the problem returns after the filter is reinstalled, concentrate your checks on the filter and its installation rather than immediately suspecting the pump.

If the machine still cannot establish water flow after the circuit-filling procedure has been repeated, further investigation may be required. Avoid continually operating the pump when no water is being delivered.

FAQ's

  • What does Empty Circuit / Fill Circuit mean on a De'Longhi Magnifica Evo?

It means water flow needs to be established through the machine's internal water circuit. Make sure the tank contains sufficient water and is correctly fitted, temporarily remove the water filter, install the hot-water spout and run the Hot Water function. The aim is to purge air from the circuit and establish a continuous water flow.

  • Why should I remove the water filter when filling the circuit?

Removing the filter temporarily eliminates it as a possible restriction while you establish whether the machine itself can draw water correctly. If the Magnifica Evo successfully primes and operates with the filter removed but the problem returns when the filter is installed, check the filter preparation, condition and installation before investigating deeper inside the machine.

  • What should I do if my Magnifica Evo still won't fill the water circuit?

Check that the water tank is at least half full and properly seated, remove the water filter and make sure the hot-water spout is correctly installed. Run the Hot Water function and, if the first attempt does not establish flow, repeat it once. If there is still no water delivery, avoid repeatedly running the pump dry. The next stage is to investigate why water is not reaching or moving through the hydraulic circuit rather than continually repeating the priming procedure.

Engineer Tip

An empty-circuit indication doesn't automatically mean the pump has failed. The hot-water purge as a way of removing air that can become trapped in the water circuit.
