quick tips

  • Adjust the grinder while it's grinding

Only change the grind setting while the grinder is actively running. Adjusting the burrs when stationary can damage the grinder mechanism. If coffee is pouring too quickly or tasting weak, make gradual one-click adjustments rather than large changes.

  • Rinse the brew unit every week

Remove the brewing unit and rinse it under warm running water without detergent. Allow it to dry before refitting. A clean infuser improves extraction, prevents jams and reduces the chances of weak coffee or brewing errors.

  • Clean the LatteCrema system after every milk drink

On Magnifica Evo LatteCrema models, always run the automatic Milk Clean cycle immediately after making milk drinks. Once a week, dismantle the milk carafe lid, nozzle and suction tube and clean them thoroughly with milk system cleaner to prevent poor frothing and blockages.

  • Descale as soon as the machine requests it

Don't delay descaling. Limescale affects brewing temperature, water flow and pump pressure. Always allow the full descale and rinse programme to complete without interruption, and avoid using vinegar or homemade descaling solutions.

  • Use fresh, medium-roast coffee beans

Very dark, oily beans leave residue inside the grinder and can cause slow grinding, noisy operation and "Fill Beans" messages even when the hopper is full. Medium-roast beans generally produce more consistent grinding and reduce maintenance.

  • Replace the water filter every two months

If your Magnifica uses the De'Longhi DLS C002 water filter, replace it approximately every two months. A fresh filter reduces limescale build-up, improves coffee flavour and extends the interval between descale cycles.

FAQ's

  • Why isn't my De'Longhi Magnifica producing good milk foam?

The most common cause is a partially blocked LatteCrema system. Run the automatic milk cleaning programme after every use and deep clean the milk carafe, lid, frothing nozzle and suction tube weekly. Using cold semi-skimmed milk also produces the best foam consistency on LatteCrema models.

  • Why is my Magnifica coffee coming out slowly?

Slow extraction is usually caused by limescale, a dirty brew unit or an excessively fine grinder setting. Descale the machine, rinse the brewing unit thoroughly and adjust the grinder one click coarser while the grinder is running if necessary.

  • Why does my Magnifica make loud grinding or buzzing noises?

This is commonly caused by oily coffee beans, coffee build-up inside the grinder chute or debris caught between the burrs. Empty and clean the hopper, brush away loose coffee grounds and switch to a less oily bean to reduce strain on the grinder.

fault codes

  • Coffee Grounds Container Indicator

When the coffee grounds container indicator illuminates, the machine has detected that the used coffee grounds container or drip tray requires attention. This usually means the container is full, has been removed, or has not been reinstalled correctly. Remove both the drip tray and grounds container, empty them completely and clean away any coffee residue before refitting them securely. Always carry out this process with the machine switched on so the internal counter can reset correctly. If the light remains illuminated after refitting, check that both components are fully inserted and the service door is completely closed.

  • Coffee Bean Hopper Indicator

The coffee bean hopper indicator appears when the machine is unable to grind or deliver enough coffee beans for brewing. The hopper may simply need refilling, but the warning can also occur if beans have bridged together, oily beans are preventing smooth feeding, or the grinder chute has become blocked. Fill the hopper with fresh coffee beans, gently stir the beans if necessary and avoid very dark or oily roasts. If coffee is still not grinding correctly, adjust the grinder one click coarser while it is running to encourage better bean flow.

  • Descaling Indicator

The descaling indicator warns that limescale has accumulated inside the machine and a descale programme is now required. Ignoring this warning can reduce water flow, lower brewing temperature and place additional strain on the internal components. Start the complete descaling programme using the recommended De'Longhi descaler and allow the entire descale and rinse cycles to finish without interruption. Regular descaling helps maintain coffee quality and prolongs the life of your Magnifica.

  • General Alarm Indicator

The general alarm indicator signals that the machine has detected a fault preventing normal operation. This can be caused by the brew unit not being installed correctly, an internal blockage, overdue maintenance or another operating fault. Switch the machine off using the power button and allow it to complete its shutdown cycle before removing and rinsing the brew unit. Empty the drip tray and grounds container, check the water tank is correctly fitted and restart the machine. If the alarm remains after cleaning and descaling, further diagnosis or servicing may be required.
