On Gaggia bean-to-cup machines, ground coffee travels from the grinder through the coffee outlet duct before reaching the brew group. If compacted coffee blocks this passage, you may hear the grinder operate normally but no coffee will be dispensed.

Switch the machine off, remove the brew group and locate the coffee outlet duct above the brew group compartment. Carefully clear accumulated ground coffee from the duct before refitting the brew group and testing the machine.

Gaggia specifically identifies an excessively fine grinder setting as a possible cause when coffee is not dispensing or is dispensing very slowly.

If the grinder has recently been adjusted towards a finer setting, move it slightly coarser. On models such as the Brera and Anima, grinder adjustments should be made only one setting at a time and according to the adjustment procedure for your particular model. Allow several coffees before judging the effect of a new grinder setting.

The removable brew group is central to the brewing process on Gaggia bean-to-cup machines. A dirty brew group can restrict coffee flow and cause dispensing to become slow or stop altogether.

Remove the brew group when the machine is in the correct position, rinse it thoroughly with lukewarm water and pay particular attention to areas where compacted ground coffee has accumulated. Allow it to air dry before reinstalling it.

If coffee reaches the dispensing assembly but cannot pass freely through the outlet holes, you may see coffee dripping very slowly, flowing unevenly from one side or failing to reach the cup.

Clean around the dispensing spout and its outlet holes to remove dried coffee deposits. Gaggia's Anima troubleshooting guidance specifically identifies dirty dispensing spouts as a cause of coffee failing to dispense.

If your Gaggia previously dispensed normally but coffee has gradually become slower, the water circuit may be restricted by limescale.

This is particularly worth checking if hot-water flow has also become slower. Complete the full descaling programme for your Gaggia model rather than simply passing descaler through the machine manually.

Watch and listen to the complete brewing cycle. If the grinder operates but the machine subsequently ejects loose or dry ground coffee into the grounds container without producing a drink, the problem is different from a simple blocked dispensing spout.

Clean the brew group and coffee outlet duct first. If the problem continues, the brew group drive, grinder delivery, water circuit or another internal component may need further investigation.
