Gaggia Coffee Machine fault codes

Gaggia Coffee Machine fault codes

  • Gaggia Coffee Machine Fault Codes

Modern Gaggia bean-to-cup coffee machines use error codes to identify faults with the grinder, brew group, water circuit and heating system. If an error remains after carrying out the recommended checks, the machine may require professional diagnosis.

  • Error Code 01 – Grinder Blocked

Meaning: The coffee grinder or coffee funnel is blocked and coffee cannot pass through the machine.

    What to check:

    • Empty the bean hopper if necessary.
    • Clean the coffee funnel and ground coffee chute.
    • Check for oily or damp coffee beans causing a blockage.
    • Restart the machine after cleaning.
  • Error Code 03 – Brew Group Fault

Meaning: The brew group cannot move correctly during the brewing cycle.

    What to check:

    • Switch the machine off.
    • Remove and thoroughly clean the brew group.
    • Lubricate the brew group if recommended in your manual.
    • Refit the brew group correctly before restarting.
  • Error Code 04 – Brew Group Position Error

Meaning: The brew group is not correctly installed or cannot return to its home position.

    What to check:

    • Remove and reinstall the brew group.
    • Ensure it clicks fully into position.
    • Check for coffee residue preventing movement.
  • Error Code 05 – Water Circuit Error

Meaning: The machine cannot detect water flowing through the hydraulic circuit.

    What to check:

    • Refill and correctly fit the water tank.
    • Prime the water circuit using the hot water function.
    • Remove any trapped air.
    • Descale the machine if water flow has reduced.
  • Error Code 14 – Machine Overheated

Meaning: The heating system has exceeded its safe operating temperature.

    What to check:

    • Switch the machine off.
    • Allow it to cool for around 30 minutes.
    • Restart the machine.
    • If the error returns repeatedly, professional diagnosis may be required.
  • Error Code 16 – Brew Group Sensor Error

Meaning: The machine cannot correctly detect the brew group's position.

    What to check:

    • Remove and clean the brew group.
    • Check it moves freely.
    • Reinstall it correctly before restarting.
  • Error Codes 10–15 – Heating System Faults

Meaning: These codes relate to the boiler, thermoblock, temperature sensors or associated electrical circuits.

    What to check:

    • Restart the machine after allowing it to cool.
    • If the code remains, the machine will usually require professional repair.
  • Error Code 19 – Electrical Supply Error

Meaning: The control board has detected an electrical or power supply issue.

    What to check:

    • Turn the machine off.
    • Disconnect it from the mains for several minutes.
    • Restart the machine.
    • If the error returns, professional diagnosis is recommended.
  • If your Gaggia displays a different error

Not every Gaggia coffee machine uses the same software or display. Models such as the Brera, Anima, Magenta, Cadorna, Babila and Accademia may support different error codes depending on their generation, while some machines use warning lights instead of numeric codes. If your model displays an error not listed here, refer to your model-specific manual or troubleshooting guide.
