how to clean a melitta ts smart coffee brewer
guide
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Fresh lukewarm water, a clean soft dry cloth and access to a sink. No cleaning tablets or chemical cleaning agents are required for manual cleaning of the removable brewing unit.
SWITCH OFF THE MACHINE
Switch off your Melitta Barista TS Smart using the On/Off button. Wait until the machine has completed its shutdown process before attempting to remove the brewing unit.
REMOVE THE SIDE COVER
Locate the service cover on the right-hand side of the machine. Reach into the recess and pull the cover sideways to remove it, exposing the brewing unit inside the machine.
UNLOCK THE BREWING UNIT
Press and hold the red lever on the brewing unit handle. Turn the handle clockwise until it reaches its stop. This releases the locking mechanism and allows the brewing unit to be removed.
REMOVE THE BREWING UNIT
Hold the brewing unit by its handle and carefully pull it out of the machine. Avoid forcing the mechanism or pulling on individual moving components.
RINSE THE BREWING UNIT
Rinse the entire brewing unit thoroughly under running water, paying particular attention to the sieve and areas where coffee grounds accumulate. Do not use cleaning agents during this manual cleaning procedure.
CLEAN THE MACHINE INTERIOR
Allow the brewing unit to drip dry. While it is removed, use a soft dry cloth to wipe away loose coffee grounds and residue from the accessible interior surfaces of the machine.
REFIT AND LOCK THE BREWING UNIT
Carefully slide the brewing unit back into the machine. Press and hold the red lever, then turn the handle anticlockwise until it reaches its stop and locks into position. Ensure the brewing unit is correctly seated.
REPLACE THE COVER
Refit the right-hand service cover until it clicks securely into place. The brewing unit cleaning procedure is now complete, and the machine can be switched back on for normal operation.
PREPARE FOR AUTOMATIC COFFEE SYSTEM CLEANING
After cleaning and reinstalling the brewing unit, make sure your Melitta Barista TS Smart is ready for operation. Have a Melitta PERFECT CLEAN coffee cleaning tablet available. The automatic cleaning programme removes coffee oils and deposits from the internal coffee system.
OPEN THE COFFEE CLEANING PROGRAMME
Press and hold the menu/ok button for approximately 2 seconds. Navigate to Care > Cleaning coffee system using the arrow buttons. Select Start and confirm with menu/ok.
FOLLOW THE DISPLAY INSTRUCTIONS
The machine will guide you through the preparation process. Follow each instruction on the display, including any requests to empty the drip tray or coffee grounds container. Do not add the cleaning tablet until instructed by the machine.
INSERT THE COFFEE CLEANING TABLET
When prompted, insert the Melitta PERFECT CLEAN coffee cleaning tablet into the brewing unit as directed by the display. Follow the remaining instructions to continue the cleaning programme. Do not place the tablet in the water tank or bean hopper.
COMPLETE THE AUTOMATIC CLEANING CYCLE
Allow the cleaning programme to run without interruption. The process takes approximately 15 minutes and includes cleaning and rinsing stages. Follow any additional display instructions until the machine confirms completion and returns to its ready state.
ENGINEER'S NOTE
Clean the removable brewing unit once a week using water only. This is separate from the automatic Coffee System cleaning programme, which uses cleaning tablets and should be completed when prompted or approximately every two months. Never force the brewing unit handle or attempt to remove the unit while the machine is operating.
