WHAT YOU'LL NEED

The cleaning disc supplied with your Sage Oracle Jet, a suitable espresso machine cleaning tablet or cleaning powder, the 58mm portafilter and fresh water in the water tank.

01

WAIT FOR THE CLEANING PROMPT

Your Oracle Jet will display a message when a coffee cleaning cycle is required. You can run the cycle when prompted or start it manually through the machine's Settings menu.

02

CHECK THE WATER & DRIP TRAY

Make sure there is sufficient fresh water in the water tank. Empty the drip tray before starting, as water released during the backflushing process will be directed into the tray.

03

FIT THE CLEANING DISC

Remove any used coffee from the portafilter and fit the Oracle Jet cleaning disc into the filter basket. The cleaning disc restricts the normal flow through the portafilter so the machine can perform the backflushing cycle.

04

ADD THE CLEANER

Add a suitable espresso machine cleaning tablet or cleaning powder as instructed by the machine. This cleaner is used to break down the coffee oils and residue that collect around the group head and shower screen.

05

LOCK IN THE PORTAFILTER

Insert the prepared portafilter into the heated 58mm group head and rotate it securely into the locked position. Check that the drip tray is correctly fitted before continuing.

06

OPEN THE CLEANING CYCLE

If the cleaning reminder is already displayed, follow the prompt on the touchscreen. To start the process manually, open Settings and select the Clean Cycle option. The maintenance menu may also identify this function as cleaning the group head.

07

FOLLOW THE TOUCHSCREEN

Follow each instruction shown on the Oracle Jet touchscreen and start the cycle when requested. The machine will automatically backflush the group head to help remove accumulated coffee oils and residue from the internal coffee path and shower screen.

08

ALLOW THE CYCLE TO FINISH

Leave the machine to complete the full cleaning programme. Do not remove the portafilter while the cycle is running or interrupt the process unless instructed by the machine.

09

REMOVE & RINSE

Once the touchscreen confirms that cleaning is complete, carefully remove the portafilter. Take out the cleaning disc and rinse the disc, filter basket and portafilter thoroughly with clean water to remove any remaining cleaning solution.

10

RINSE THE GROUP HEAD

With an empty filter basket and portafilter fitted, run a short flow of clean water through the group head. This helps rinse away any remaining coffee residue or cleaning solution before you make your next drink.

IMPORTANT

The coffee cleaning cycle is not a descaling cycle. Coffee cleaning removes coffee oils and residue from the shower screen and group head, while descaling deals with mineral and limescale build-up inside the machine's water system.

FAQ's

  • How do I know when my Sage Oracle Jet needs a coffee cleaning cycle?

The Oracle Jet displays a message on its touchscreen when a cleaning cycle is required. You do not have to wait for the reminder, however. The cleaning cycle can also be started manually from the machine's Settings menu. The cycle backflushes the group head and cleans the shower screen to remove accumulated coffee and oils.

  • Is the Sage Oracle Jet cleaning cycle the same as descaling?

No. They deal with two different types of build-up. The coffee cleaning cycle is a backflushing process designed to remove coffee oils and residue from the shower screen and group head. Descaling is a separate maintenance process used to remove mineral and limescale deposits from the machine's water system.

  • Do I need a cleaning tablet to run the Sage Oracle Jet cleaning cycle?

Yes, the Oracle Jet's group-head cleaning function requires a suitable espresso cleaning tablet or cleaning powder. The machine is supplied with a cleaning disc and cleaning powder, and the touchscreen guides you through the cleaning process once the cycle has been selected.
