quick tips

  • KitchenAid KF6 Support

The KitchenAid KF6 (5KES8556) is a fully automatic bean-to-cup machine with a 2.4-inch colour display, removable 270 g bean hopper, seven grind settings, pre-ground coffee shaft and automatic milk preparation through a milk hose. Unlike the KF7 and KF8, the KF6 does not include a milk container—the milk hose is designed to draw directly from your own container or even a milk carton. KitchenAid

  • Using milk on the KF6 is different from the KF7 and KF8

The KF6 does not have the supplied milk tank used on the other models. For a milk drink, remove the connector from one end of the milk tube and place that end directly into your milk container or carton. Connect the other end to the dispenser. Cold milk straight from the fridge will generally give the best results. KitchenAid

  • Run Easy Milk Rinsing after milk drinks

After a milk drink, the KF6 display prompts you to rinse the frother. Select Easy Milk Rinsing, connect the milk tube to the dispenser and place its other end into the drip tray as instructed. Put a container of at least 0.5 litres beneath the dispenser and follow the display. The machine runs the rinse and then heats back up ready for use. Device Report

  • Put the milk-hose connector back on for cleaning

This is particularly important on the KF6. Although the connector is removed when drawing milk directly from a container, the manual specifically instructs KF6 owners to reinsert the milk-hose connector for cleaning. If a cleaning programme isn't progressing as expected, check the hose is assembled in the cleaning configuration shown on the display. MaxiCoffee

  • Clean the removable brew unit with cold water

The KF6 has a removable brew unit behind the service door on the right-hand side. The manual instructs that it can be removed and rinsed under running water as required and before the machine's brew-unit cleaning programme. Don't use detergent on the removable brew unit—use cold water only. Manualzz

  • The grinder has seven settings

The KF6's removable bean hopper incorporates seven grind settings. Grind adjustment can be useful when extraction is consistently too fast or too slow, but make small changes rather than jumping several positions at once. Remember that the effect may not be obvious until subsequent coffees have passed through the grinder and brew unit. Al Ghandi Electronics

  • There's a dedicated pre-ground coffee shaft

You don't have to empty the bean hopper to use pre-ground coffee. Open the top lid and then the coffee-grounds shaft. Add one level measuring spoon of ground coffee, close the shaft and lid, and select the required drink when the display confirms the grounds are ready. In Coffee Grounds mode, the shot setting cannot be adjusted.

FAQ's

  • Why is my KitchenAid KF6 asking me to rinse after making a milk drink?

That's normal. After dispensing milk, the KF6 uses its Easy Milk Rinsing programme to flush the internal milk system. The rinse should be carried out as soon as possible after making the drink and, according to the manual, no later than before switching the machine off. MaxiCoffee

  • Does the KitchenAid KF6 come with a milk container?

No. This is an important difference between the KF6 and the KF7/KF8. The 5KES8556 KF6 does not include the milk tank. Remove the connector from the appropriate end of the supplied milk tube and place the hose directly into your chosen milk container or milk carton. KitchenAid

  • Can I remove the brew unit from the KitchenAid KF6?

Yes. Open the service door on the right-hand side of the machine, release the brew-unit locking mechanism and pull the unit straight out using its handle. The removable unit can be rinsed with cold running water. Don't clean it with detergent.

fault codes

  • The KF6 relies heavily on its colour display rather than requiring the owner to interpret a large list of conventional numbered error codes. When cleaning or maintenance is required, the display can present the relevant instruction and allow the corresponding programme to be started directly. The Cleaning menu also provides access to the machine's cleaning and maintenance programmes. Follow the display through the complete sequence rather than interrupting a programme part-way through. Manualzz

  • A milk-system rinse message after a milk drink is normal and isn't a fault. Select the instruction and complete Easy Milk Rinsing. If milk performance remains poor after rinsing, use the Deep Milk Clean programme. This programme requires milk-system cleaning detergent mixed with water in a container of at least 0.3 litres, after which the KF6 guides you through the process on its display.

  • Milk System Cleaning

The KF6's milk system is unusual because there is no supplied milk tank. During normal drink preparation, one end of the milk hose draws directly from a separate milk container or carton.

After making a milk drink, follow the Easy Milk Rinsing prompt. For this cleaning operation, reconnect the hose as instructed, put the free end into the drip tray and place a container of at least 0.5 L beneath the dispenser. The machine then flushes the internal milk circuit.

For a more thorough clean, select Deep Milk Clean from the cleaning menu and follow the display instructions using suitable milk-system cleaning solution. Remember that the KF6 milk-hose connector needs to be fitted again for cleaning. MaxiCoffee

  • Brew Unit Cleaning

The KF6 uses a removable brew unit, accessible through the service door on the right of the machine.

For the machine's two-phase brew-unit cleaning process, the manual first instructs you to empty the trays, fill the 2.2 L water tank to MAX and put a container of at least 0.5 L beneath the dispenser.

For the next phase, open the service door, press the red release switch upwards and rotate the brew-unit handle up and to the left until it locks. The brew unit can then be pulled straight out by its handle.

When manually rinsing it, use cold water only and no detergent. Manualzz

  • Descaling

Descaling is started through the KF6's Cleaning menu or directly from the maintenance message when it appears on the display. The machine then provides the actions required for each stage of the programme.

Don't simply run descaler through the machine as though making coffee. Use the dedicated programme and follow the KF6 display from beginning to end so the machine can control the descaling and rinsing stages correctly.

  • Water Filter Change

The KF6 uses a replaceable water filter in its 2.2 L removable water tank and allows the water-hardness setting to be configured. The machine is supplied with a test strip for measuring water hardness and a spoon that also acts as a filter-mounting aid. Device Report

When replacing the filter, use the machine's filter/maintenance procedure rather than treating it as simply a physical filter swap. Correct water-hardness and filter settings allow the KF6's maintenance system to calculate its requirements appropriately.
