  • KitchenAid KF7 

    The KitchenAid KF7 (KES8557) is a fully automatic bean-to-cup coffee machine with a removable bean hopper, 15 drink types, four user profiles, a dedicated milk container, dual milk-based beverage capability and a 3.5-inch touchscreen. Unlike the KF6, the KF7 includes its own milk tank and connects the milk tube between the tank lid and the side of the dispenser.

  • Use the KF7 milk tank correctly

    The KF7 has a dedicated milk tank, unlike the KF6. Fill the tank with cold milk straight from the fridge, fit the lid and connect one end of the milk tube to the milk-tank lid and the other end to the side of the dispenser. The machine can then prepare its milk-based drinks automatically.

    If milk delivery becomes inconsistent, check these connections before assuming there is an internal fault.

  • Rinse the milk system after every milk drink

    After dispensing milk, the KF7 performs Easy Milk Rinsing. The display prompts you to rinse the frother; this should be completed as soon as possible and no later than before switching the machine off.

    Select Easy Milk Rinsing, connect the milk tube between the dispenser and drip-tray area as instructed, place a container of at least 0.5 litres under the dispenser and confirm on the display. The machine completes the rinse and then heats back up ready for use.

  • Use Deep Milk Clean when rinsing isn't enough

    Easy Milk Rinsing is the regular rinse; the KF7 also has a separate Deep Milk Clean programme.

    Add suitable milk-system cleaning detergent and water to a container of at least 0.3 litres, using the cleaner's specified mixing ratio. Select Deep Milk Clean from the Cleaning menu and follow the touchscreen instructions until the programme finishes.

  • Adjust the grinder only while it is grinding

    The KF7's grind adjustment is behind the service door on the right-hand side. Start an Espresso, then move the grind regulator while the grinder is actually running. Move it left for a finer grind and right for a coarser grind.

    The manual specifically states that grind fineness should only be changed while the grinder is operating. It also suggests finer settings for lighter roasts and coarser settings for darker roasts.

  • Use Purge Beans when changing coffee

    The KF7 has a genuinely useful feature if you change between different beans. Turn the hopper knob anticlockwise to unlock it, enter the Cleaning menu and select Purge Beans. Follow the touchscreen instructions.

    The purge function clears beans remaining in the grinder chamber, reducing the amount of the previous coffee carried into the next drink. The removable hopper is released by unlocking it and pressing its side removal button.

  • Don't treat slow coffee flow as automatically being a pump problem

    If espresso begins pouring very slowly or only dripping, the KF7 manual identifies several possible causes: grind set too fine, excessive coffee dose, limescale in the system or a dirty/clogged brew unit.

    Try a slightly coarser grind or reduce the coffee dose where appropriate. If the machine is due for maintenance, complete its descaling or brew-unit cleaning programme before moving on to more involved fault finding.

  • Why is my KitchenAid KF7 not frothing milk properly?

    First use cold milk directly from the fridge. The KF7 troubleshooting information specifically identifies warm milk as a possible cause of poor milk foam. Scale build-up can also affect milk-system performance, so if the machine is due for descaling, complete the descaling programme.

    Also check that the milk tube is properly connected between the KF7's milk-tank lid and the dispenser and that the milk circuit has been cleaned.

  • Why is coffee coming out of my KitchenAid KF7 very slowly?

    The grind may be too fine or the coffee dose may be too high. Try moving to a slightly coarser grind setting—remembering to adjust the regulator only while the grinder is running—or reduce the coffee dose.

    If that doesn't improve the flow, the manual also identifies limescale and a dirty or clogged brew unit as possible causes.

  • Why won't the bean hopper lock into my KitchenAid KF7?

    Remove the hopper and inspect underneath it. Coffee beans or loose grounds beneath the hopper can prevent the locking mechanism from moving fully into position. Clear the area and refit the hopper before trying to lock it again.

  • The KF6 relies heavily on its colour display rather than requiring the owner to interpret a large list of conventional numbered error codes. When cleaning or maintenance is required, the display can present the relevant instruction and allow the corresponding programme to be started directly. The Cleaning menu also provides access to the machine's cleaning and maintenance programmes. Follow the display through the complete sequence rather than interrupting a programme part-way through.   • A milk-system rinse message after a milk drink is normal and isn't a fault. Select the instruction and complete Easy Milk Rinsing. If milk performance remains poor after rinsing, use the Deep Milk Clean programme. This programme requires milk-system cleaning detergent mixed with water in a container of at least 0.3 litres, after which the KF6 guides you through the process on its display.

  • Brew Unit Cleaning

    The KF7 has a removable brew unit behind the right-hand service door.

    Its cleaning programme is a two-phase process. Start the cleaning instruction, empty the trays, fill the 2.2 L water tank to MAX and place a container of at least 0.5 L beneath the dispenser.

    During the second phase, open the service door. Press the red brew-unit switch upwards and rotate the handle up and to the left until it locks. Pull the brew unit straight out using its handle.

    Rinse the unit under cold running water and allow it to dry. The manual specifically says not to use detergent on the brew unit. During the dedicated cleaning programme, a suitable brew-unit cleaning tablet is placed inside the brew unit before following the remaining touchscreen instructions.

  • Descaling

    The KF7 tells you on its touchscreen when descaling is required. You can also start Descaling manually through the Cleaning menu.

    Remove the water filter before starting. Put a container of at least 0.5 L beneath the dispenser and follow each instruction on the display. When preparing the descaling solution, the manual specifies adding the required water first up to the 0.5 L mark and then adding the descaler.

    Do not use vinegar or vinegar-based products and do not interrupt the programme once it is running.

  • Water Filter Change

    The KF7 monitors use of its water filter and displays a replacement instruction after approximately 50 litres of water have passed through the filter.

    Enter the Water Filter menu, confirm that a filter is installed and select Replace Filter. The end of the supplied measuring spoon doubles as a filter-mounting aid: use it to unscrew the old filter and fit the replacement into its holder inside the water tank.

    Follow the remaining instructions on the touchscreen until the filter procedure is complete and the machine returns to its ready state.
