My Coffee Machine Assist

quick tips

  • Activate AquaClean when you install it

Don't just push a new AquaClean filter into the water tank. Prepare the filter, fit it securely and complete the AquaClean activation through the machine. This allows the machine to recognise and monitor the installed filter. The EP5500 quick-start procedure specifically includes the AquaClean installation and activation sequence.

  • Use the drink controls before changing the grinder

If your coffee is too strong, weak, short or long, start with the available drink adjustments. Grinder adjustment should be used to fine-tune extraction rather than being the first thing changed whenever a drink doesn't taste right.

  • Keep the removable brew group clean

The 5500 uses a removable brew group accessed through the side service area. Remove it regularly and rinse away accumulated coffee residue. Make sure it is dry and correctly positioned before putting it back. The guide illustrates both removal and refitting of the brewing unit.

  • Clean LatteGo before dried milk builds up

Separate and rinse the milk-system components after use. If milk performance starts deteriorating, inspect and clean the LatteGo assembly before assuming the machine has developed an internal steam problem.

  • Look at when water enters the drip tray

Water in the drip tray doesn't automatically mean the 5500 is leaking. Water is discharged internally during normal rinsing and operation. An unusually fast-filling tray, continuous water loss or water underneath the machine is more significant than a small amount appearing after rinsing.

  • Let the machine complete its cleaning cycles

When the 5500 starts a rinse or cleaning procedure, allow it to finish. Interrupting cleaning or repeatedly switching the machine off partway through a process can leave water or cleaning solution inside the circuit and make subsequent troubleshooting more difficult.

FAQ's

  • Why is my Philips 5500 not dispensing coffee?

First establish whether the problem affects all water flow or coffee only. Try dispensing hot water. If hot water is also unavailable, check that the water tank is filled and correctly seated and consider the AquaClean filter. If the problem appeared immediately after replacing the filter, trapped air or an incorrectly prepared filter should be investigated.

If water works normally but coffee doesn't, move to the coffee side of the machine. Check that beans are being ground, inspect the coffee path and remove and clean the brew group. A dirty or obstructed brewing area can restrict coffee delivery even when the pump and water circuit are working normally.

  • Why isn't my Philips 5500 LatteGo frothing milk properly?

Remove the LatteGo assembly and separate its washable components. Clean away all milk residue and make sure the unit is correctly assembled before reconnecting it.

Test again with fresh, cold milk. If the machine is drawing milk but producing poor foam, concentrate first on cleanliness, assembly and the milk being used. If it isn't drawing milk at all, inspect the LatteGo connection and establish whether the machine can otherwise produce hot water/steam.

  • Why does my Philips 5500 have water in the drip tray?

A certain amount is expected. The machine performs rinsing and uses the drip tray to collect water discharged internally during operation.

The important distinction is how much water is appearing and when. Empty and dry the tray, then monitor the machine through a normal rinse and drink preparation. If the tray fills rapidly, water continuously appears while the machine is idle, or water escapes underneath the machine, investigate it as a potential leak rather than normal rinse water.

fault codes

  • Error 01 – Coffee funnel blocked

The grinder cannot operate correctly because ground coffee is obstructing the coffee funnel. Switch the machine off, remove the brew group and thoroughly clear accumulated ground coffee from the funnel.

  • Error 03 – Brew group dirty or incorrectly lubricated

Remove the brew group and clean it thoroughly. Make sure it moves freely and is correctly lubricated before reinstalling it.

  • Error 04 – Brew group not positioned correctly

The machine cannot correctly detect or operate the brew group. Remove it where possible, reset its position and carefully reinstall it until correctly seated.

  • Error 05 – Water circuit problem / air in the circuit

Check that the water tank is full and properly installed. If an AquaClean filter is fitted, remove it temporarily and try the machine again. Prime the water circuit by dispensing hot water where possible.

  • Error 11 – Machine needs to adjust to room temperature

This can occur when the machine has been transported or stored at a low temperature. Allow it to reach normal room temperature before switching it on again.

  • Error 14 – Machine overheated

Switch the machine off and allow it to cool before restarting. If Error 14 repeatedly returns after the machine has cooled, further diagnosis is required.
