Remove the water tank, fill it with fresh cold water and refit it firmly. A tank that is empty, low or not fully seated can prevent the machine from drawing water correctly. The 28760 manual specifically warns against operating below the minimum water level.

If the machine has been operated without water, air can enter the water circuit and the machine may need priming before it will pump normally again. On the Café Genie 28760, fit an empty portafilter, install the milk tank, fill the water tank and run the Latte function at least three times, or until water starts flowing from the portafilter.

On the 28760, if the machine detects no water flow during brewing, it cancels the brew cycle, flashes all the lights three times and returns to standby. Refill the tank if necessary and prime the machine before trying another drink.

A blocked portafilter or sieve can make it appear that the pump is not supplying water. Remove the portafilter and basket and clean them thoroughly. The manuals specifically identify a blocked portafilter or sieve as a cause of no espresso being dispensed.

Coffee that is ground too finely or compressed too firmly can create too much resistance for water to pass through. The 28760 troubleshooting information specifically lists incorrect grind size and excessive tamping pressure as possible causes when no espresso is produced.

Remove the coffee and test the machine with a clean, empty portafilter. If water now flows, concentrate on the basket, grind and tamping. If there is still no water after the tank is correctly fitted and the machine has been primed, stop repeatedly attempting brew cycles and investigate the water-delivery system further.
