Smeg coffee machine fault codes

What it means

The machine has detected that the water tank is empty, missing or the water level is too low.

What to do

• Refill the water tank with fresh water.
  
• Check the tank is fully inserted.
  
• If the tank is full but the warning remains, clean the tank to remove any limescale deposits that may affect the water level sensor.

What it means

The coffee bean hopper is empty or has reached the minimum coffee level.

What to do

• Fill the hopper with fresh coffee beans.
  
• Only use whole coffee beans.
  
• Never add pre-ground coffee to the bean hopper.

What it means

The used coffee grounds container is full.

What to do

• Empty the grounds container.
  
• Leave it removed for at least 15 seconds while the machine remains switched on so the counter resets correctly.
  
• Refit the container before making another drink.

What it means

The coffee grounds container or internal drip tray is missing or has not been fitted correctly.

What to do

• Remove both components.
  
• Empty and clean if necessary.
  
• Refit them securely until fully located.

What it means

The side service door is open, or the brewing unit has not been installed correctly.

What to do

• Check the service door is fully closed.
  
• Remove and reinstall the brewing group.
  
• Restart the machine if necessary.

What it means

The brewing unit and its compartment require cleaning.

What to do

• Open the service door.
  
• Remove the brewing group.
  
• Rinse it under running water.
  
• Clean the brewing chamber using the supplied brush.
  
• 
  Dry thoroughly before refitting.

The machine recommends running a descaling cycle.

Coffee can still be prepared for a limited number of cycles, but descaling should be completed as soon as possible.

Descaling is now mandatory.
