Engineer's Notes

  • Check the Water Tank

Remove the water tank and fill it with fresh drinking water. Refit it firmly, ensuring it sits correctly in its housing. A poorly seated tank can interrupt the water supply and trigger an Empty Circuit or Fill Circuit warning, even when the tank contains water.

  • Prime the Water Circuit

When the machine displays Empty Circuit or Fill Circuit, follow the on-screen instructions to restore water flow. Depending on the model, this may involve pressing OK, confirming the warning or dispensing hot water. Place a container beneath the outlet and allow the filling cycle to complete without interruption.

  • Check the Water Filter

If a water filter is fitted, remove it temporarily and attempt to refill the circuit. Air trapped inside a newly installed filter or a restricted filter can prevent water from reaching the pump. If water flows normally without the filter, correctly prime or replace the filter before refitting it.

  • Check the Tank Outlet Valve

Remove the water tank and inspect the spring-loaded outlet valve underneath. Over a sink, gently press the valve to confirm that water flows freely. If the valve sticks or releases very little water, the machine may struggle to draw water into the circuit. Check for debris and ensure the valve moves freely.

  • Listen to the Water Pump

Start the circuit-filling process and listen carefully. A loud buzzing noise with no water delivery can indicate that the pump is struggling to draw water, potentially because of trapped air or a restricted supply. If the pump runs but water never reaches the outlet, further investigation of the water circuit may be necessary.

  • Consider Limescale or an Internal Restriction

If the warning repeatedly returns despite a full tank, correctly fitted filter and attempted priming, an internal water restriction may be preventing the circuit from filling. Limescale, a restricted valve or a failing pump can produce similar symptoms. Avoid repeatedly running the pump without water flow, as further diagnosis may be required.
