If the Rivelia sounds like it is trying to pump but no water is coming through, the water circuit may contain air. Remove the water spout from its storage compartment on top of the machine, fit it to the machine and use the hot-water/water-circuit function to establish a steady flow. This is particularly important after first setup, draining the machine or allowing the water tank to run completely empty.

Take the water tank completely out, refill it with fresh water and reinstall it firmly. A tank that isn't seated correctly may prevent the machine from drawing water properly. If the problem started immediately after filling or removing the tank, this should be one of your first checks.

If the problem started after installing or replacing the water filter, remove the filter and test the machine again. A filter containing trapped air can interfere with water entering the circuit. Before refitting it, fully immerse the filter in water and gently tilt and press it until trapped air bubbles have escaped.

Fit the Rivelia water spout and select Hot Water from the drinks menu. If hot water flows normally but coffee does not, the pump itself is unlikely to be the first place to look. The restriction may instead be associated with the coffee brewing path, grinder setting or coffee delivery system.

Restricted water flow can develop as scale accumulates inside the hydraulic circuit. If the machine is requesting a descale, complete the full descaling programme rather than repeatedly trying to dispense water. Also make sure the machine's water-hardness setting reflects your local water supply so future descale reminders occur at the appropriate interval.

If water dispenses normally from the water spout but coffee only drips or doesn't dispense, the problem may be excessive resistance through the coffee rather than a failed pump. Adjust the grinder slightly coarser and test again. Make grinder adjustments gradually and only in accordance with the machine's grinder adjustment procedure.
