he Magnifica Duo uses separate LatteCrema Hot and LatteCrema Cool milk carafes for hot and cold milk drinks. Cleaning has two distinct stages: the automatic Clean function after milk drinks, followed by periodic thorough cleaning where the carafe is dismantled. The machine also provides cleaning reminders on its display.

1. Leave the milk carafe attached

After preparing a milk drink, leave the LatteCrema carafe connected to the Magnifica Duo. You don't need to empty the remaining milk before running the Clean function.

2. Place a container beneath the milk spout

Put a cup or other empty container directly beneath the milk dispensing spout. This will collect the hot water and steam discharged during cleaning.

3. Start the Clean function

When the Magnifica Duo asks you to clean the carafe, press OK on the machine.

The machine automatically sends hot water and steam through the milk spout to clean the milk delivery circuit. Allow it to continue until it stops automatically; don't interrupt the cleaning cycle once it has started.

4. Making several milk drinks? Clean after the last one

You don't have to run the complete Clean function between every drink when you're preparing several milk drinks one after another.

When the cleaning request appears, you can select another drink or postpone cleaning. Once you've made the final milk drink, run the Clean function before removing the carafe.

5. Refrigerate remaining milk

Once the Clean function has finished, remove the carafe and return it directly to the refrigerator if it still contains usable milk.

There is an important difference between the Duo's two carafes: LatteCrema Hot can be refrigerated for no longer than 2 days, while LatteCrema Cool should be kept for no longer than 1 day before the carafe is thoroughly cleaned.

If a milk carafe has been left out of the refrigerator for more than 30 minutes, dismantle it and perform the thorough cleaning procedure rather than simply returning it to the fridge.

The automatic Clean function flushes the milk delivery path, but it doesn't replace dismantling and cleaning the complete carafe. The Magnifica Duo will periodically remind you when a thorough clean is required.

1. Remove the carafe lid

Take the milk carafe out of the machine and lift the complete lid away from the milk container.

2. Remove the milk tubes and spout

Detach the milk dispensing spout, its extension if fitted, and the milk intake tube from the carafe lid. These narrow components need particular attention because milk residue inside them can restrict milk delivery and affect foam quality.

3. Remove the froth adjustment dial

Turn the froth adjustment dial clockwise until it reaches the Remove position, then pull the dial upwards and away from the lid.

4. Remove the milk-carafe connector

Turn the carafe connector anticlockwise and pull it out. Don't leave this component installed during the thorough clean—the Magnifica Duo procedure specifically requires it to be removed.

5. Choose dishwasher or hand cleaning

The Magnifica Duo milk-carafe components can be cleaned in a dishwasher or thoroughly by hand.

For a dishwasher clean, first rinse the components with warm drinking water at approximately 40–50°C. Stand the carafe lid upright on its edge in the top dishwasher basket and place the smaller removable parts—such as the tubes, connector and dial—in the cutlery basket. Use a wash programme at approximately 50°C, such as a standard Eco programme.

For hand cleaning, rinse every component thoroughly with warm drinking water at approximately 40–50°C, making sure water passes through the small openings. Then soak the components, including the milk container, in warm water with washing-up liquid for at least 30 minutes. Rinse everything thoroughly afterwards.

6. Check underneath the froth adjustment dial

Inspect the cavity and channel underneath the froth adjustment dial carefully. Milk residue hidden here can interfere with correct milk and air flow even when the visible parts of the carafe look clean.

If residue remains inside the channel, carefully remove it with a toothpick.

7. Check the milk intake tube and dispensing spout

Look through both the milk intake tube and milk dispensing spout and make sure neither contains dried milk or another obstruction. A partially blocked tube can cause weak foam, inconsistent milk delivery or spluttering from the milk outlet.

8. Dry and reassemble the carafe

Dry all the components with a clean, dry cloth. Refit the connector, froth adjustment dial, intake tube, milk outlet and extension where fitted, then reinstall the lid onto the milk container.

Make sure every component is seated correctly before filling and reconnecting the carafe.

The Magnifica Duo manual makes a specific distinction between its two milk systems:

LatteCrema Cool — thoroughly clean after 1 day.

LatteCrema Hot — thoroughly clean after 2 days.

The machine also periodically reminds you that a thorough carafe clean is required and can display the cleaning sequence.
