How to Clean a De'Longhi Rivelia Coffee Brewer
guide
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Fresh lukewarm water, a clean soft cloth and access to a sink. Do not use washing-up liquid, detergents or a dishwasher to clean the coffee brewer.
SWITCH THE MACHINE OFF
Switch your Rivelia off using the normal power control and allow it to complete its shutdown sequence. The coffee brewer should only be removed when the machine is switched off and has returned the brewer to its resting position.
REMOVE THE WATER TANK
Remove the water tank from the machine. The brewer access door is located behind the water tank, so removing the tank gives you access to the removable brewing unit.
OPEN THE BREWER ACCESS DOOR
Open the brewing unit access door. You should now be able to see the removable coffee brewer inside the machine.
REMOVE THE COFFEE BREWER
Press the two coloured release buttons on the sides of the brewer inward at the same time, then carefully pull the brewing unit towards you to remove it from the machine. Do not force it. If the brewer will not release, refit the water tank, close the access area, switch the machine on and then off normally before trying again.
RINSE THE BREWER
Rinse the complete brewing unit under fresh running water. Carefully wash away loose coffee grounds and coffee residue from the brewer surfaces, openings and moving sections that can be reached without dismantling the unit.
USE WATER ONLY
Clean the brewer using water only. Do not use washing-up liquid, cleaning detergents or other chemical cleaners on the brewing unit, and do not place it in a dishwasher. Cleaning products can remove or damage the lubrication required by the brewer's moving components.
CLEAN INSIDE THE BREWER AREA
While the brewer is removed, check the inside of the machine for loose coffee grounds. Use a clean soft cloth to remove accessible residue from the brewing-unit compartment. Avoid pushing coffee grounds further inside the machine and do not use metal or sharp objects.
RINSE AND CHECK THE BREWER
Give the brewing unit a final rinse and check that no obvious coffee deposits remain. Allow excess water to drain from the brewer before refitting it. There is no need to dismantle the brewing unit itself for routine cleaning.
REFIT THE COFFEE BREWER
Slide the brewer back into its guides and towards its support until it is correctly seated, then press the PUSH area until the brewing unit clicks securely into position. Check that the two release buttons have returned fully outwards.
CLOSE THE MACHINE
Close the brewer access door and refit the water tank. Switch the Rivelia back on normally. The machine can now complete its normal start-up sequence and is ready for use.
ENGINEER'S NOTE
Don't wait until the brewer is heavily coated in old coffee before cleaning it. Regular rinsing helps prevent compacted grounds and coffee oils building up around the moving parts. Always remove the brewer with the Rivelia correctly switched off — trying to remove it while the mechanism is out of its resting position can make it appear stuck.
