WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Warm water, mild washing-up liquid and a clean soft cloth. The Rivelia milk carafe can also be cleaned in a dishwasher.

01

RUN THE CLEAN CYCLE AFTER MILK DRINKS

After preparing a milk drink, leave the milk carafe connected to the machine. Place a suitable container beneath the milk spout, then turn the froth adjustment dial to CLEAN. The machine will run the automatic milk-system cleaning cycle through the carafe.

02

REMOVE THE MILK CARAFE

Once the CLEAN cycle has finished, return the dial to its normal position and remove the milk carafe from the machine. If milk remains in the carafe and you are not carrying out a full clean immediately, place the carafe in the refrigerator.

03

EMPTY THE CARAFE

For a thorough clean, empty any remaining milk from the container. Do not simply rinse the assembled carafe — the milk system should be dismantled so that the individual milk-contact components can be cleaned properly.

04

DISMANTLE THE MILK SYSTEM

Remove the lid from the milk container and separate the removable milk-system components. Remove the milk intake tube, milk spout and spout extension, and detach the removable carafe connector. Separate the components carefully rather than forcing them apart.

05

CLEAN THE FROTH ADJUSTMENT DIAL

Pay particular attention to the froth adjustment and CLEAN dial area. Milk deposits around the dial and internal passages can restrict airflow and affect the quality and consistency of the milk foam.

06

WASH THE MILK COMPONENTS

Wash the dismantled components thoroughly using warm water and mild washing-up liquid, making sure there is no dried milk remaining in the intake tube, milk outlet or connector passages. The milk-carafe components can also be washed in a dishwasher.

07

CHECK THE MILK PASSAGES

Before reassembly, inspect the milk intake tube, milk spout and connector openings. They should be clean and unobstructed. Even a small amount of dried milk can restrict milk flow or prevent the system from drawing the correct amount of air for frothing.

08

REASSEMBLE THE CARAFE

Once everything is clean, refit the components securely. Make sure the silicone milk intake tube is pushed correctly into its connection underneath the carafe lid and that the milk spout, extension and removable connector are fully seated.

09

REFIT AND TEST

Refill the carafe with fresh milk, reconnect it to your Rivelia and prepare a milk drink. Milk should be drawn smoothly through the intake tube and dispensed consistently from the milk spout.

  • How often should I clean the De'Longhi Rivelia milk system?

Run the carafe CLEAN cycle after preparing milk drinks to flush milk residue from the internal milk circuit. The carafe should also be dismantled regularly for a thorough clean, particularly if it is used frequently. If milk frothing becomes inconsistent, milk dispenses slowly or you can see dried milk around the components, carry out a full clean before investigating a machine fault.

  • Can I put the De'Longhi Rivelia milk carafe in the dishwasher?

Yes. The removable milk-carafe components are dishwasher-safe. Dismantle the carafe so that the individual components can be cleaned properly rather than placing the complete assembled carafe into the dishwasher. Check the milk intake tube, outlet and connector passages are clear before reassembling the system.

  • Why is my De'Longhi Rivelia not frothing milk properly after cleaning?

First check that the milk carafe has been reassembled correctly. The silicone milk intake tube must be securely connected underneath the lid, and the milk spout and removable connector should be fully seated. If assembly is correct, inspect the small milk and air passages for remaining deposits. Restricted airflow or dried milk inside these areas can result in weak, inconsistent or reduced milk foam.

Engineer Tip

The CLEAN setting is excellent for flushing the Rivelia milk circuit after use, but don't rely on it as the only form of cleaning. Milk residue gradually collects around the intake, outlet and air-mixing areas of an automatic milk system.
