HOW TO CLEAN A MELITTA AVANZA COFFEE BREWER

Keeping your Melitta Avanza coffee brewer clean helps maintain reliable operation and consistent coffee quality. The machine has a removable brewing unit for regular cleaning and an automatic cleaning programme for the internal coffee system.

CLEANING THE BREWING UNIT

01

SWITCH OFF THE MACHINE

Switch off your Melitta Avanza and allow it to complete its shutdown process before removing the brewing unit.

02

OPEN THE SERVICE COVER

Remove the service cover on the right-hand side of the machine to access the brewing unit.

03

REMOVE THE BREWING UNIT

Press and hold the red lever on the brewing unit handle, turn the handle clockwise until it stops, then carefully pull the brewing unit out of the machine.

04

RINSE THE BREWING UNIT

Thoroughly rinse the entire brewing unit under running water, paying particular attention to the coffee residue around the brewing chamber and sieve. Do not use washing-up liquid or other cleaning agents.

05

CLEAN THE BREWING UNIT COMPARTMENT

Remove loose coffee residue from the brewing unit compartment using a soft, dry cloth. Allow the brewing unit to drip dry before refitting.

06

REFIT THE BREWING UNIT

Slide the brewing unit back into the machine. Press and hold the red lever and turn the handle anticlockwise until it stops and locks into position. Refit the service cover.

AUTOMATIC COFFEE CLEANING PROGRAMME

The automatic cleaning programme removes coffee oils and deposits from the internal coffee system. Use the cleaning tablets specified for your machine and follow the programme when prompted.

07

PREPARE THE MACHINE

Ensure the machine is switched on and ready for operation. Fill the water tank with fresh water and have a suitable coffee-system cleaning tablet available.

08

START THE CLEANING PROGRAMME

Press and hold the Service button for more than two seconds to open service mode. Navigate to the cleaning programme using the service controls and confirm the selection as described in the operating manual.

09

EMPTY THE DRIP TRAY

When prompted, remove and empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container. Refit both components before continuing.

10

ADD THE CLEANING TABLET

When instructed by the programme, remove the brewing unit and place the specified cleaning tablet into the brewing unit as shown in the operating manual. Refit and lock the brewing unit, then close the service cover.

11

ALLOW THE PROGRAMME TO RUN

Follow the machine prompts and allow the automatic cleaning programme to continue. The programme takes approximately 15 minutes. Do not interrupt the cleaning process.

12

COMPLETE THE CLEANING CYCLE

Follow any remaining prompts to empty and refit the drip tray and coffee grounds container. Once the programme has finished and the machine returns to its ready state, normal operation can resume.

Engineer's Tip

Cleaning the removable brewing unit and running the automatic cleaning programme serve different purposes. Weekly rinsing removes loose coffee grounds and residue, while the automatic cleaning programme helps remove coffee oils from the internal system. Both are important for maintaining consistent performance and reducing the risk of brewing problems.
