WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Melitta PERFECT CLEAN milk system cleaning agent, a container holding at least 0.7 litres, fresh water, a soft damp cloth, mild washing-up liquid and the cleaning brush supplied with your machine.

01

RINSE AFTER PREPARING MILK DRINKS

After preparing a milk-based drink, your Barista TS Smart prompts you to run the Easy Cleaning programme. Follow the instructions on the display to rinse the milk system. This programme uses hot water and steam to flush the milk circuit.

02

START EASY CLEANING MANUALLY

With the machine ready for operation, place a container beneath the outlet. Press and hold the menu/ok button for 2 seconds. Navigate to Care > Easy Cleaning, use the arrow buttons to select Start and confirm with menu/ok. Follow the display instructions until the programme finishes.

03

PREPARE FOR THE WEEKLY MILK CLEAN

With the machine ready for operation, place a container holding at least 0.7 litres beneath the outlet. Have your Melitta PERFECT CLEAN milk system cleaning agent available and follow the preparation and dosing instructions on its packaging.

04

SELECT CLEANING MILK SYSTEM

Press and hold the menu/ok button for 2 seconds to open the menu. Navigate to Care > Cleaning milk system. Use the arrow buttons to select Start and confirm by pressing menu/ok.

05

COMPLETE THE CLEANING PROGRAMME

Follow each instruction shown on the display, including the prompts for using the milk system cleaning agent. The programme takes approximately 3 minutes and should not be interrupted. Once complete, the machine returns to its ready state.

06

REMOVE THE MILK UNIT

For additional manual cleaning, disconnect the milk hose from the machine. Push the adjustable outlet fully downwards. Using two fingers, squeeze the milk unit locking mechanism and carefully pull the milk unit downwards off the outlet.

07

DISMANTLE AND CLEAN THE MILK UNIT

Pull the milk distributor upwards out of the milk unit, then remove the inlet by pulling it upwards. Clean the individual components with warm water, the supplied cleaning brush, a soft damp cloth and normal washing-up liquid. Regularly clean the milk hose and milk container too.

08

REASSEMBLE THE MILK SYSTEM

Reinstall the inlet and milk distributor in reverse order. Refit the milk unit onto the adjustable outlet and secure the locking mechanism. Reconnect the milk hose, ensuring the components are correctly seated before using the milk system again.

ENGINEER'S NOTE

Easy Cleaning should be carried out after preparing milk drinks, while the full milk system cleaning programme should be completed weekly. Regular manual cleaning of the removable milk unit, hose and container is also important. Never interrupt the automatic cleaning programme or use an unsuitable cleaning agent.

FAQ's

  • How often should I clean my Melitta Barista TS Smart milk system?

Run the Easy Cleaning programme after preparing milk-based drinks to rinse the milk circuit. The full Cleaning Milk System programme should be completed once a week using Melitta PERFECT CLEAN milk system cleaning agent. The removable milk unit, milk hose and milk container should also be cleaned regularly to maintain hygiene and consistent milk frothing performance.

  • Why is my Melitta Barista TS Smart not frothing milk properly?

Poor milk frothing can result from dried milk residue inside the milk distributor, inlet or milk hose. Remove the milk unit and clean the individual components thoroughly with warm water, a soft damp cloth and the supplied cleaning brush. Check that the milk hose is clear and correctly connected before testing the machine again.

  • Can I put my Melitta Barista TS Smart milk container in the dishwasher?

The plastic milk container can be cleaned in the dishwasher, provided the lid and riser pipe are removed first. However, the thermal milk container and its individual components must not be placed in the dishwasher. Always identify which container your machine uses before cleaning.

Engineer's Tip

Milk frothing problems are not always caused by a faulty component. Dried milk deposits can restrict the small passages inside the milk distributor and inlet, affecting the balance of milk and air required to produce consistent foam. Even when the automatic cleaning programme completes successfully, regular manual cleaning of these removable components is important.
