WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Melitta ANTI CALC liquid descaler for fully automatic coffee machines, fresh drinking water, a collection container and approximately 15 minutes. Follow the descaler packaging and machine display for the correct solution quantity.

01

PREPARE YOUR MACHINE

Switch on your Melitta Barista TS Smart and allow it to complete its start-up routine. Make sure the machine is displaying its normal ready screen before beginning the descaling programme.

02

OPEN THE CARE MENU

Press and hold the menu/ok button for approximately 2 seconds. When the main menu appears, use the arrow buttons to navigate to Care and confirm your selection.

03

START THE DESCALING PROGRAMME

Navigate to Care > Descaling. Use the arrow buttons to select Start and press menu/ok to confirm. The display will guide you through the remaining preparation and descaling stages.

04

REMOVE THE WATER FILTER

If a PRO AQUA water filter is installed, remove it when requested on the display. Unscrew the filter from the bottom of the water tank and place it in a separate container of fresh tap water while descaling takes place. Do not expose the filter to descaling solution.

05

PREPARE THE DESCALING SOLUTION

Follow the instructions on the display and the descaler packaging to prepare the correct solution. Add it to the water tank as directed and reinstall the tank securely. Do not use vinegar, citric acid mixtures or household descaling products.

06

ALLOW THE PROGRAMME TO RUN

Position a suitable collection container beneath the dispensing outlets when requested. The machine will automatically move the descaling solution through its internal water circuit. Follow any additional instructions shown on the display and do not interrupt the programme.

07

COMPLETE THE RINSING STAGES

When prompted, remove the water tank, discard any remaining descaling solution and rinse the tank thoroughly. Refill it with fresh drinking water and refit it. Empty the collection container as required and follow the display instructions until the rinsing process is complete.

08

REFIT THE FILTER AND FINISH

Once descaling is complete, refit the water filter if it is still within its service life. Empty and clean the drip tray, check the water level and confirm the machine has returned to its normal ready screen. Your Melitta Barista TS Smart is ready to use.

FAQ's

  • How often should I descale my Melitta Barista TS Smart?

As a general guide, descale your Melitta Barista TS Smart every three months or whenever the machine displays a descaling notification. The frequency depends on your water hardness and how often you use the machine. If you consistently use a correctly maintained PRO AQUA water filter, descaling may be required less frequently, but should still be completed at least annually.

  • Can I leave the water filter installed while descaling my Melitta Barista TS Smart?

No. The water filter must be removed when requested during the descaling programme. Descaling chemicals can damage the filter material. Place the removed filter in a container of fresh tap water while the programme runs, then reinstall it after descaling is complete, provided the filter is still within its service life.

  • Why is my Melitta Barista TS Smart still asking for descaling after completing the process?

If the descaling notification remains, the programme may not have completed correctly. This can happen if the machine was switched off, the cycle was interrupted or the final rinsing stages were not finished. Restart the descaling programme through Care → Descaling if necessary and follow every display instruction until the machine returns to its normal ready screen.

Engineer's Tip

Descaling frequency is closely linked to water hardness. If your Melitta Barista TS Smart is used without a water filter, check that the water hardness setting matches your local supply. An incorrect setting can result in unnecessary descaling or allow limescale to build up before the machine requests maintenance. Regular descaling helps protect the heating system, internal valves and water circuit, particularly in hard-water areas.
