HOW TO DESCALE A GAGGIA MAGENTA

The Gaggia Magenta guides you through its descaling procedure on the display. When the machine requests descaling, complete the full programme to remove mineral deposits from the internal water circuit. The procedure includes both a descaling stage and a fresh-water rinse.

OPEN THE CLEANING MENU

Switch the Gaggia Magenta on and allow it to become ready for use. Press the CLEAN/SETTING button on the control panel.

Select CLEAN, then select DESCALING from the available cleaning programmes. Start the procedure when prompted.

EMPTY THE DRIP TRAY

Remove the drip tray and coffee grounds container. Empty both containers and reinstall them correctly in the machine.

Continue following the preparation instructions shown on the Magenta display.

REMOVE THE WATER FILTER

Remove the water tank and empty the remaining water.

If an INTENZA+ water filter is installed, remove it from the water tank before adding the descaling solution.

ADD THE DESCALING SOLUTION

Pour the Gaggia descaling solution into the empty water tank.

Add fresh drinking water until the level reaches the CALC CLEAN marking on the tank, then reinstall the water tank in the machine.

PREPARE THE DISPENSING AREA

Follow the instructions shown on the display to prepare the dispensing area for descaling.

The exact outlet arrangement differs across the Magenta range. Magenta Plus uses a steam wand, while Magenta Milk and Prestige versions use different milk-system components. Follow the preparation shown for your machine.

POSITION A LARGE CONTAINER

Place a large container beneath the coffee dispensing spout and the outlet indicated by the machine.

Make sure the container is correctly positioned to collect all liquid dispensed during the descaling procedure.

START THE DESCALING STAGE

Confirm the preparation steps on the display and start the descaling programme.

The Magenta will automatically dispense the descaling solution through its internal water circuit. Allow the programme to continue and follow any additional instructions shown on the display.

RINSE THE WATER TANK

When the descaling stage has finished and the machine requests fresh water, remove the water tank.

Rinse the tank thoroughly with fresh drinking water to remove any remaining descaling solution.

REFILL WITH FRESH WATER

Fill the rinsed water tank with fresh drinking water to the level indicated by the machine and reinstall it.

Empty the collection container if necessary and return it beneath the dispensing outlets.

RUN THE RINSE CYCLE

Continue the programme as instructed on the display. The Magenta will dispense fresh water through the internal circuit to flush out the remaining descaling solution.

Do not stop the procedure simply because the original descaling solution has finished dispensing. The rinse is part of the complete descaling process.

COMPLETE THE PROCEDURE

Allow the rinse stage to continue until the Magenta confirms on the display that descaling has been completed.

Empty the drip tray and collection container and refill the water tank with fresh drinking water if required.

REFIT THE WATER FILTER

If you removed an INTENZA+ water filter before descaling, reinstall it or fit a replacement as appropriate.

Make sure any milk-system or steam components removed during preparation are correctly refitted before returning the machine to normal use.

Should I remove the INTENZA+ filter before descaling my Gaggia Magenta?
Yes. If an INTENZA+ water filter is fitted, remove it from the water tank before adding the descaling solution. Once the complete descaling and fresh-water rinse procedure has finished, reinstall the filter or replace it as appropriate.
Can I stop descaling once the Gaggia Magenta has emptied the descaling solution?
No. Dispensing the descaling solution is only the first part of the procedure. The water tank must then be rinsed and filled with fresh water so the Magenta can complete its rinse stage and flush the remaining solution from the internal circuit.
Do all Gaggia Magenta machines descale in exactly the same way?
The core guided descaling process is shared across the Magenta range, but the external hardware differs. Magenta Plus uses a steam-wand arrangement, while Magenta Milk and Prestige versions have different milk systems. Follow the preparation instructions shown on your machine's display for the outlets and removable components fitted to your model.
