quick tips

  • Know the three different preparation modes

This E8 isn't limited to conventional hot coffee. Pressing the world-selection control gives access to three different preparation styles:

Classic Hot Brew prepares the drink hot using the conventional brewing method.

Light Brew uses less ground coffee and a reduced brewing temperature, producing a drink designed to be ready to drink sooner.

Sweet Foam prepares compatible milk drinks using sweetened milk foam and the supplied syrup attachment.

This distinction is particularly important when troubleshooting drink temperature: a drink prepared using Light Brew is deliberately made at a reduced brewing temperature.

  • Clean the HP3/CX3 milk system properly

The New Generation E8 uses an HP3 milk-system connector and CX3 interchangeable milk spout.

After milk preparation, the machine can rinse the milk system automatically 15 minutes later, or milk rinsing can be initiated manually depending on the selected setting.

If milk has been used, the fine foam frother must also be cleaned daily. The manual additionally recommends dismantling and rinsing the fine foam frother approximately once a week.

  • Change the HP3 pipe and CX3 spout around every three months

Don't rely solely on cleaning when milk performance starts deteriorating. The maintenance schedule specifies replacing both the milk pipe with HP3 connector and the CX3 interchangeable milk spout approximately every three months.

This is particularly useful when investigating inconsistent milk delivery or poor foam after the frother has already been thoroughly cleaned.

  • Let the E8 manage its CLARIS Smart+ filter

Fit the supplied extension to the CLARIS Smart+ cartridge and turn the cartridge clockwise in the water tank until it audibly clicks into position.

The E8 automatically recognises a newly installed filter and rinses it, with the filter-rinse water going directly into the drip tray.

When CLARIS Smart+ filtration is being used correctly, the E8 does not require its normal machine descaling programme. It will instead tell you when the filter has reached capacity.

  • If coffee drips, check the grind and water hardness

The manual specifically addresses coffee that only comes out in drips. One documented cause is coffee being ground too finely, obstructing the system. Adjust the grinder to a coarser setting.

The other documented possibility is incorrectly configured water hardness. In that situation the prescribed action is to descale the machine.

A correctly adjusted grind should produce coffee that flows regularly from the coffee spout with a fine, thick crema.

  • Don't mistake a quiet pump for an immediate pump failure

This generation has a particularly useful diagnostic entry in its troubleshooting information. If little or no water or steam comes from the fine foam frother and the pump is very quiet, the connector behind the fine foam frother may be blocked by milk residue or fragments of limescale released during descaling.

Remove the fine foam frother and use the hexagonal opening in the supplied ground-coffee measuring spoon to unscrew the black connector. Clean the connector thoroughly and refit it tightly by hand.

FAQ's

  • What drinks can the Jura E8 New Generation make?

The E8 start screen provides Espresso, Americano, Coffee, Cappuccino, Cortado, Milk Foam, Flat White, Latte Macchiato, Macchiato, Lungo, Espresso Doppio and Hot Water.

The machine also introduces the three preparation worlds described above. Compatible milk specialities can be prepared using Sweet Foam with the supplied syrup attachment.

For Americano and Lungo, the E8 uses a specific preparation method that combines coffee with additional hot water. Espresso Doppio prepares two espressos consecutively.

  • Why is my Jura E8 New Generation producing poor milk foam or spraying milk?

The manual specifically associates insufficient foam or milk spraying from the fine foam frother with a dirty frother.

Start with the milk-system cleaning programme. If performance remains poor, remove the milk pipe, dismantle the fine foam frother into its individual components and rinse everything thoroughly.

For heavily dried milk deposits, the manual specifies soaking the affected parts in 250ml of water with one dosing unit of milk-system cleaner, followed by thorough rinsing.

Also remember that the E8 specifies a milk temperature of 4–8°C for good frothing performance

  • Why is my Jura E8 New Generation not producing water or steam from the milk outlet?

If little or no water or steam comes from the fine foam frother and the pump sounds unusually quiet, the manual identifies the frother connector as a possible restriction point.

Remove the fine foam frother and unscrew the black connector using the hexagonal hole incorporated into the supplied measuring spoon. Clean the connector thoroughly and reinstall it.

The manual specifically notes that the obstruction can consist of milk residue or limescale fragments loosened during descaling, making this a particularly useful New Generation E8-specific troubleshooting check.

fault codes

  • Fill water tank

The water tank is empty and drinks cannot be prepared. Fill the tank with fresh, cold, non-carbonated water and reinstall it.

  • Empty grounds / Empty drip tray

The grounds container or drip tray is full. Empty both and reinstall them.

A useful E8-specific detail: empty the grounds container while the machine is switched on. This is how the machine resets its grounds counter.

  • Drip tray not fitted

The drip tray is missing or hasn't been correctly inserted. Product preparation remains unavailable until the tray is properly fitted.

  • Fill bean container

The bean container is empty. Coffee drinks cannot be prepared, although hot water and milk remain available.

  • Too hot

The internal system is currently too hot to begin the selected maintenance programme. Wait several minutes for it to cool, or prepare a coffee speciality or hot water.

  • Filter

The CLARIS Smart+ cartridge has reached the end of its usable capacity. Replace the cartridge.

  • Cleaning

The E8 has reached its cleaning requirement. Run the automatic cleaning programme.

  • Descaling

The E8 has calculated that descaling is required. Complete the automatic descaling programme.

  • Milk system cleaning

The E8 is requesting its milk-system cleaning programme. Complete the programme through the JURA Cockpit.

  • Cleaning the Brewing/Coffee System

The E8 automatically monitors when its internal coffee system needs cleaning. After 180 preparations or 80 switch-on rinses, it prompts for a cleaning programme.

Access JURA Cockpit → Maintenance → Cleaning → Start.

After the drip tray and grounds container have been emptied, place receptacles beneath the coffee spout and fine foam frother. The E8 begins cleaning and subsequently displays “Add cleaning tablet.”

Open the cover behind the bean container, open the ground-coffee filler funnel and place the cleaning tablet into the funnel. Close the covers and allow the programme to continue uninterrupted.

Water is discharged repeatedly through both the coffee spout and fine foam frother during the process. The complete programme takes approximately 20 minutes.

  • Cleaning the Milk System

If milk has been prepared, clean the milk system daily.

From the JURA Cockpit select Milk system cleaning → Start. Remove the milk pipe from the milk container/cooler and put one dosing unit of milk-system cleaner into the supplied cleaning container.

Position the container beneath the coffee spout and fine foam frother, push the fine foam frother fully down so it connects correctly to the container and connect the HP3 milk pipe.

Start the programme and allow the E8 to complete the cleaning process automatically.

The manual also recommends dismantling and rinsing the fine foam frother once a week.

  • Changing the Water Filter

The E8 uses a CLARIS Smart+ filter cartridge with RFID technology.

Remove and empty the water tank. Turn the old cartridge anticlockwise and remove it together with its extension.

Fit the extension to the replacement CLARIS Smart+ cartridge, insert it into the water tank and rotate it clockwise until it audibly clicks into place.

Refill and reinstall the water tank. The E8 automatically detects the replacement cartridge and begins “Filter is being rinsed.”

Importantly, this rinse water flows directly into the drip tray, which is normal operation rather than evidence of a water leak.

  • Descaling the E8

The machine monitors limescale accumulation according to the configured water hardness and prompts for descaling when required. If CLARIS Smart+ filtration is being used correctly, the E8 will not normally prompt for descaling.

When prompted, access the descaling programme through the Cockpit. The programme requires three descaling tablets completely dissolved in 500ml of water.

The solution is added to the empty water tank. Receptacles are positioned beneath the hot-water nozzle and fine foam frother, and the programme repeatedly passes solution through these outlets.

When instructed, thoroughly rinse the water tank, refill it with fresh cold water and allow the rinse stage to complete.

The programme takes approximately 20 minutes and should not be interrupted.
