Jura E8 not pumping water

quick tips

  • Coffee only coming out in drips?

If your E8 is dispensing coffee very slowly or only in drips, the grind may be too fine and restricting the brewing system. Adjust the grinder to a coarser setting. Incorrectly set water hardness and scale build-up can also contribute, so descaling may be required.

  • Poor milk foam or milk spraying from the frother?

A dirty fine foam frother is a specific cause listed for poor foam and spraying milk. Run the milk-system cleaning programme and, if the problem remains, remove the fine foam frother, dismantle it into its individual parts and rinse everything thoroughly.

  • Very little water or steam and the pump sounds unusually quiet?

Check the black connector behind the fine foam frother. Milk deposits or pieces of limescale released during descaling can block this connector. Remove the frother and use the hexagonal opening in the supplied ground-coffee measuring spoon to unscrew the connector, clean it thoroughly and refit it securely.

  • Keep the milk system maintained, not just rinsed.

After preparing milk, the E8 can automatically rinse the milk system after 15 minutes. However, rinsing doesn't replace cleaning: if milk has been used, the fine foam frother should be cleaned daily, with dismantling and rinsing recommended approximately once a week.

  • ERROR 2 or ERROR 5 after the machine has been somewhere cold?

These two errors can occur when the E8 has been exposed to low temperatures for an extended period. Heating can be disabled as a safety measure. Allow the machine to warm naturally to room temperature before trying it again.

  • Don't ignore the filter status in the Cockpit.

When the filter symbol illuminates red and “Filter” appears, the CLARIS Smart+ cartridge has reached the end of its capacity. Replace it rather than simply continuing to use the machine. The E8 automatically detects the replacement and rinses the new cartridge.

FAQ's

  • Why is my Jura E8 grinder suddenly very loud?

A very loud grinder can indicate that a foreign object has entered the grinder. This is different from normal changes in grinding noise caused by different beans. The E8 troubleshooting information does not provide a user procedure for removing an obstruction from the grinder, so if the noise is unusually loud, stop using the grinder and arrange further inspection rather than attempting to dismantle it.

  • Why does my Jura E8 say “Too hot”?

The “Too hot” message means the system temperature is currently too high to start a maintenance programme. Wait several minutes for it to cool, or prepare a coffee or hot water. Once the temperature is suitable, the maintenance programme can be started.

  • Why does my Jura E8 say “Drip tray not fitted” even though I've put it back?

This message means the machine isn't detecting the drip tray as correctly inserted. Remove the tray and carefully refit it fully into the machine. The E8 will prevent drink preparation while the tray is missing or incorrectly positioned. If correctly refitting the tray doesn't clear the message, the manual doesn't specify further user-level troubleshooting for this condition, so the tray/detection system may need further investigation.
