quick tips

  • Clean the milk system every day

The ENA 8 uses Jura's HP1 fine foam milk system. Clean the milk system daily after preparing milk drinks to maintain hygiene and consistently smooth milk foam.

  • Replace the milk hose regularly

Jura recommends replacing the milk pipe approximately every three months. A worn hose can reduce milk flow, introduce air leaks and affect foam quality.

  • Use a CLARIS Smart or Smart Mini filter

The ENA 8 automatically detects genuine RFID-enabled CLARIS Smart filters. Using one reduces limescale build-up and means the machine will only request filter replacement rather than regular descaling.

  • Adjust the grinder only while grinding

If you need to change the grind setting, always do so while the grinder is operating. Adjusting it while stationary can damage the grinder mechanism.

  • Run the cleaning programme when prompted

The ENA 8 will request a cleaning cycle after approximately 160 coffee preparations or 80 switch-on rinses. Complete the programme using genuine Jura cleaning tablets to protect the brewing unit.

  • Empty the coffee grounds container while the machine is switched on

The ENA 8 only resets the coffee grounds counter when the container is emptied with the machine powered on. Emptying it while switched off may cause repeated "Empty grounds container" messages.

FAQ's

  • Why is my Jura ENA 8 producing poor milk foam?

Poor milk foam is usually caused by dried milk inside the HP1 frother or worn milk tubing. Run the automatic milk cleaning programme, dismantle and rinse the frother, and replace the milk hose if necessary.

  • Why does coffee only drip slowly from my Jura ENA 8?

Slow coffee flow is commonly caused by an excessively fine grinder setting or limescale restricting water flow. Adjust the grinder one or two settings coarser and descale the machine if you are not using a CLARIS Smart filter.

  • Does the Jura ENA 8 need descaling when using a CLARIS Smart filter?

Normally no. When a genuine CLARIS Smart or Smart Mini filter is installed and activated, the ENA 8 manages water quality through filtration and will instead prompt you to replace the filter when required.

fault codes

  • Error 1 – Brew Unit or Drive Fault

Meaning: The brewing mechanism cannot complete its cycle.

    Possible causes

    • Brew unit jam
    • Drive motor obstruction
    • Coffee ground too finely causing excessive resistance

    Recommended action

    • Switch the machine off for 60 seconds.
    • Empty the bean hopper if necessary.
    • Adjust the grinder slightly coarser.
    • If the error returns, professional servicing is recommended.
  • Error 2 – Machine Too Cold

Meaning: The machine has become too cold for safe operation.

    Possible causes

    • Machine stored in a cold environment
    • Internal temperature below operating range

    Recommended action

    • Allow the ENA 8 to warm naturally to room temperature before switching it back on.
  • Error 3 – Temperature Sensor Fault

Meaning: The machine cannot correctly monitor brewing temperature.

    Possible causes

    • Faulty temperature sensor
    • Internal electrical connection fault

    Recommended action

    • Restart the machine.
    • If Error 3 remains, the machine requires servicing.
  • Error 4 – Heating System Over Temperature

Meaning: The thermoblock has overheated or detected abnormal temperatures.

    Possible causes

    • Heavy limescale
    • Restricted water flow
    • Thermoblock fault

    Recommended action

    • Allow the machine to cool.
    • Perform a descaling programme if appropriate.
    • Arrange service if the error reappears.
  • Error 5 – Machine Too Cold / Water Circuit Fault

Meaning: Heating has been disabled for protection due to low temperature or restricted water flow.

    Possible causes

    • Machine exposed to cold temperatures
    • Water circuit restriction
    • Flow problem

    Recommended action

    • Warm the machine to room temperature.
    • Check the water tank and filter.
    • Descale if necessary.
  • Fill Water Tank (Tank Full)

Meaning: The machine cannot detect water correctly.

    Possible causes

    • Sticking tank float
    • Scale deposits
    • Dirty water tank sensor

    Recommended action

    • Remove and clean the water tank.
    • Check the float moves freely.
    • Descale the machine if required.
  • Insert Filter

Meaning: The filter is missing, incorrectly installed or has reached the end of its service life.

    Recommended action

    • Install a genuine CLARIS Smart or Smart Mini filter.
    • Ensure it is fully seated.
    • Replace the filter if expired.
  • Other Error Messages

Meaning: The ENA 8 has detected an internal electronic or mechanical fault.

    Recommended action

    • Switch the machine off using the power button.
    • Leave it switched off for several minutes before restarting.
    • If the error persists, contact a Jura service centre for diagnosis.
