quick tips

  • Check the grinder isn't set too fine

One of the most common causes of slow or incomplete dispensing is coffee that has been ground too finely.

Very fine coffee can restrict the brewing chamber, causing the coffee to drip very slowly or stop completely.

    If adjustment is required:

    • Only adjust the grinder while it is running.
    • Move the setting one click at a time.
    • Test several coffees before making further adjustments.
  • Run the automatic cleaning programme

Coffee oils gradually build up inside the brewing circuit.

Jura recommends running the automatic cleaning programme whenever the machine requests it, using genuine Jura cleaning tablets.

A blocked brewing system can reduce water flow and prevent normal coffee extraction.

  • Descale the water circuit

If water flow has gradually reduced across all drinks, limescale may be restricting the thermoblock or hydraulic system.

If your Z5 is not operating with a CLARIS filter, complete the descaling programme when prompted.

Poor water flow often improves immediately after successful descaling.

  • Check the bean container

The Z5 may appear to grind normally but still produce poor coffee if:

    • Oily beans bridge together.
    • Caramelised beans clog the grinder.
    • The hopper is nearly empty.

Jura recommends using only roasted coffee beans without additives, as flavoured or caramelised beans can damage the grinder and affect brewing.

  • Empty and refit the drip tray correctly

If the Z5 asks you to empty the drip tray or coffee grounds container, complete the instruction before attempting another coffee.

The machine monitors these components and will not continue brewing until they are correctly refitted.

Always empty the grounds container while the machine is switched on so the counter resets correctly.

  • Check for restricted water flow

If the grinder completes normally but no coffee reaches the cup, listen carefully.

Pump running loudly with little coffee

    Usually indicates:

    • Air trapped in the system.
    • Heavy limescale.
    • Restricted hydraulic circuit.

Pump sounds normal but only drips

    Usually indicates:

    • Coffee ground too finely.
    • Brew unit contamination.
    • Coffee outlet partially blocked.

FAQ's

  • Why does my Jura Z5 grind the beans but no coffee comes out?

If grinding completes but little or no coffee is dispensed, the most likely causes are restricted water flow, a blocked brewing system, heavy limescale or coffee that has been ground too finely. Running the cleaning programme followed by descaling often restores normal operation.

  • Why is my Jura Z5 only dispensing coffee in drips?

Coffee that drips very slowly is usually caused by an overly fine grinder setting or a brewing circuit that requires cleaning or descaling. Adjust the grinder only while it is operating and make small changes between test coffees.

  • Can oily coffee beans stop my Jura Z5 dispensing coffee?

Yes. Jura advises using only roasted coffee beans without additives. Oily or caramelised beans can leave deposits inside the grinder, reducing bean feed and affecting brewing performance.
