The automatic rinse removes fresh milk residue but it cannot remove dried milk proteins.

Run the complete Clean Milk System programme using Jura Milk System Cleaner. If the machine has not been cleaned for several days, run the programme twice.

This is the most common cure for poor milk foam.

The Z5's dual coffee and milk spout can become blocked with dried milk deposits.

Jura advises dismantling the dual spout and thoroughly rinsing all removable components if milk sprays unevenly or foam quality falls.

Pay particular attention to:

• Air intake holes
  
• Foam chamber
  
• Milk outlet
  
• Steam passages
  

Any blockage restricts the Venturi effect needed for fine foam.

Jura specifically recommends milk at 4–8°C for optimum milk foam.

For best results:

• Use freshly opened milk.
  
• Keep milk refrigerated.
  
• Avoid leaving milk in the container between drinks.
  
• Semi-skimmed or whole milk generally produces the best foam consistency.
  

Warm milk almost always produces weaker foam.

A surprisingly common Z5 issue is a hardened or cracked milk pipe.

Signs include:

• Large bubbles
  
• Poor foam
  
• Milk spluttering
  
• Milk drawn inconsistently
  

If the pipe has become stiff or cloudy, replace it.

Jura recommends replacing the milk pipe and interchangeable milk spout approximately every three months depending on use.

If very little steam reaches the frother, milk cannot be textured correctly.

The Jura manual states that little or no steam is often caused by milk residue or limescale blocking the connector of the interchangeable milk spout.

Remove the connector and clean it thoroughly before reassembling.

If steam is weak from both milk functions, the machine may also require descaling.

After cleaning, ensure:

• All seals are fitted.
  
• The spout cover clicks fully into place.
  
• No components are installed upside down.
  
• The milk connector is fully inserted.
  

Jura notes that incorrect assembly can cause milk to spray rather than produce smooth foam.
