Melitta coffee machine not turning on

Melitta coffee machine not turning on

  • No power to the machine

A loose power cable, switched-off socket or failed electrical supply can prevent the machine from receiving power.

Check that the mains lead is securely connected, test the wall socket with another appliance and ensure any switched socket is turned on.

  • Water tank or drip tray not fitted correctly

Some Melitta models monitor the position of removable components during start-up. If the water tank, drip tray or grounds container is not correctly installed, the machine may not complete its start-up checks.

Remove each component, clean the contact areas if necessary and reinstall them securely.

  • Brew unit not seated correctly

If the removable brew unit has not locked fully into position after cleaning, the machine may fail to initialise.

Remove the brew unit, rinse it if required and reinstall it until it locks securely into place.

  • Machine interrupted during cleaning or descaling

If power has been interrupted during an automatic maintenance programme, the machine may not start normally until the cycle is completed.

Switch the machine back on and follow any on-screen instructions to resume or complete the programme.

  • Internal electronics require resetting

Occasionally the control system may require a complete power reset.

Disconnect the machine from the mains for approximately one minute before reconnecting it and attempting to switch it on again.

  • Internal electrical fault

If there are no lights, no display and no response after confirming the power supply, the machine may have an internal electrical fault affecting the power supply, control board or another electronic component.

Further diagnosis may be required if the machine remains completely unresponsive.

  • Common symptoms

    • Machine does not respond when the power button is pressed.
    • Display remains blank.
    • No indicator lights illuminate.
    • Machine switches off immediately after starting.
    • Start-up sequence begins but does not complete.

    • Machine appears completely dead despite a working power socket.
  • Water Tank / Sensor Not Detected

    • Melitta machines rely on:
      Tank position sensors
      Flow detection

    If not detected:

    • Machine may not start
    • Or powers briefly then stops

Incorrect tank seating can block operation

  • Internal heating system fault

If your Melitta coffee machine still is not turning on after checking the power supply, reinstalling the brew unit and removable components and performing a power reset, the fault may involve the power supply, control board, internal wiring or another electrical component.
