• Air trapped in the water circuit

After the water tank has been emptied or the machine has been stored for a period, air can become trapped inside the hydraulic system, preventing the pump from drawing water.

Fill the water tank and run the hot water function several times until a steady flow of water returns.

  • Water tank not seated correctly

If the water tank is not fully inserted, the inlet valve may not open correctly and the pump will be unable to draw water.

Remove the water tank, refill it, check the valve at the base moves freely and reinstall it securely.

  • Machine requires descaling

Melitta manuals recommend descaling whenever the machine prompts for it. Limescale inside the hydraulic system can restrict water flow and reduce pump performance.

Complete the full descaling programme using the recommended descaling product and allow the cycle to finish without interruption.

  • Brew unit is blocked

A heavily contaminated brew unit can create excessive resistance, making it appear that the machine is not pumping water.

Remove the brew unit, rinse it thoroughly under warm water, allow it to dry naturally and reinstall it correctly.

  • Water filter is blocked

A saturated or expired water filter can reduce the amount of water entering the machine.

Remove the filter temporarily and test the machine. If water flow returns, replace the filter and reset the filter programme if required.

  • Pump is running but no water is delivered

If you can hear the pump operating but no water reaches the coffee or hot water outlet, there may be a blockage within the water circuit or an internal hydraulic component requiring inspection.

Try dispensing hot water before attempting another coffee cycle to help confirm whether the restriction is within the coffee circuit or the water supply.

  • Water inlet blocked

Debris around the water tank connection or inlet valve can reduce water flow into the machine.

Clean the water tank, inlet area and valve before refitting the tank.

  • Common symptoms

    • Pump can be heard but no water comes out.
    • Coffee does not dispense.
    • Hot water function produces little or no water.
    • Machine is unusually noisy while attempting to pump.
    • Water flow stops during brewing.

    • Only a few drops of coffee are dispensed.
  • Need more help?

If your Melitta coffee machine is still not pumping water after checking the water tank, running the hot water function, cleaning the brew unit and completing the descaling programme, the fault may involve the pump, flow meter, thermoblock, water valve or another internal component. Visit our Melitta Fault Codes & Error Messages page and Melitta Troubleshooting hub for further diagnosis and brand-specific support.

  • Need More Help?

If your Melitta coffee machine continues displaying warning messages after cleaning, descaling and carrying out the recommended checks, visit our Melitta troubleshooting guides for model-specific support, maintenance advice and common fault diagnosis.
