Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Melitta coffee machine keep asking to descale even though I use a water filter?

Melitta machines still require descaling, even when a Melitta® PRO AQUA water filter is fitted. The filter significantly reduces limescale build-up but does not eliminate it completely. On most Melitta models, the water hardness should be set correctly, and fitting a PRO AQUA filter automatically changes the water hardness setting to level 1. Melitta recommends replacing the filter every two months and running the descaling programme whenever the machine requests it.

How often should I clean my Melitta coffee machine?

For the best coffee quality and reliable operation, Melitta recommends emptying and cleaning the drip tray and coffee grounds container daily. The removable brewing unit should be rinsed regularly under clean water, while the automatic cleaning programme should be carried out whenever prompted by the machine. On models such as the Barista TS Smart, Melitta recommends running the cleaning programme approximately every two months, or sooner if requested by the machine.

Why is my Melitta milk frother not producing foam properly?

Poor milk frothing is usually caused by dried milk residue inside the Cappuccinatore or milk unit. Melitta recommends dismantling the milk components, cleaning each part thoroughly with warm water, and ensuring every part locks back into place correctly before use. Using cold fresh milk and keeping the milk circuit clean will produce the best froth and help prevent blockages.
