Siemens eq500 not pumping water

quick tips

  • Remove the water filter and test the machine

If the problem started after changing the INTENZA filter, remove the filter temporarily and try dispensing water again. The EQ500 documentation specifically identifies air trapped inside the water filter as a cause when the machine will not dispense drinks. If flow returns without the filter fitted, concentrate on preparing and refitting the filter rather than the pump.

  • Remove trapped air from the water filter

Take the filter out and immerse it in water with the opening facing upwards. Keep it submerged until no more air bubbles escape. Refit it by pressing it firmly and straight down into the connection in the water tank. An air-filled filter can prevent the EQ500 drawing water correctly.

  • Remove and correctly refit the water tank

Take the water tank completely out, refill it with fresh, non-carbonated water and reinstall it firmly. If the machine displays “Please refill water tank” despite being full, incorrect tank positioning is one of the documented causes.

  • Clean the milk system every day

If the EQ500 isn't recognising the water supply, inspect the float in the tank. A stuck float can make the machine behave as though the tank is empty. Remove the tank, clean it thoroughly and make sure the float can move normally before reinstalling it.

  • Clean the tank after descaling

The troubleshooting information specifically identifies residue from limescale remover blocking the water tank as a possible reason the machine won't dispense a drink. Remove the tank and rinse it thoroughly with clean water before trying the machine again.

  • Descale if water flow has gradually become restricted

If the problem developed gradually rather than suddenly, limescale should be considered. The EQ500 documentation links heavy limescale with slow coffee dispensing and other performance problems. Run the machine's Descaling programme and allow it to complete fully. Don't interrupt the service programme part-way through.

FAQ's

  • Why is my Siemens EQ500 making a pumping noise but no water is coming out?

If you can hear the machine trying to pump, check the water filter first. Air trapped inside the filter can prevent the EQ500 from dispensing. Remove the filter, immerse it in water with its opening upwards until the bubbles stop, then reinstall it firmly. If the problem began immediately after fitting a new filter, this is particularly worth checking before investigating the pump itself.

  • Why did my EQ500 stop pumping water after changing the filter?

A new filter may contain trapped air or may not be seated correctly in the tank connection. Properly vent the filter in water and press it straight down and firmly into its connection. The EQ500 can also be operated without a water filter, so temporarily removing the filter is a useful way of determining whether the filter installation is restricting the water supply.

  • Why is my EQ500 saying the water tank is empty when it's full?

Remove and reinstall the tank first. If the warning remains, clean the tank and check its float isn't stuck. Also check the water filter: a new filter that hasn't been correctly prepared, trapped air inside the filter or an old filter can contribute to the warning. The documentation also identifies limescale deposits in the water tank as a possible cause.
