The EQ6 Plus has a removable brewing unit, and this is one of the first areas to check when coffee quality deteriorates, the machine struggles during brewing or the display asks for the brewing unit to be cleaned. Switch the machine completely off using the main switch, open the service door, slide the red locking latch fully to the left, then press the eject lever fully down. Remove the brewing unit using its recessed grips. Remove its cover and rinse the brewing unit and its strainer thoroughly under running water. Do not use washing-up liquid and do not put the brewing unit in a dishwasher. Allow the unit and the inside of the machine to dry before refitting it, raising the eject lever and moving the red latch fully back to the right.

The EQ6 Plus uses a removable milk system fitted into the beverage outlet, together with a milk tube and suction pipe. If milk starts spluttering, the quantity of foam drops or the machine draws little or no milk, remove and clean these components rather than repeatedly adjusting the drink settings. The individual milk-system parts, including the suction pipe, can be cleaned thoroughly and the manual permits applicable milk-system components to be cleaned in the dishwasher. When rebuilding it, make sure the milk system is inserted straight into the front of the machine before replacing the outlet cover.

Use the EQ6 Plus grinder adjustment only while the grinder is operating. Make small adjustments rather than moving it several positions at once, then make another coffee before judging the result. If coffee is dispensing very slowly or only in drops, the grind may be too fine. If it runs too quickly or lacks body and crema, a finer setting may help. Bean type matters too: very dark or oily beans can behave very differently from a medium roast, so don't automatically assume a poor extraction is a machine fault.

Don't simply push a new filter into the EQ6 Plus water tank and continue using the machine. Press the filter firmly and straight into the tank connection using the measuring spoon, fill the tank to MAX, then select Water filter → Activate new filter in the menu. The machine runs water through the filter to rinse it and simultaneously activates the filter-change monitoring. Replace the filter when prompted or after two months at the latest. If a newly fitted filter causes poor water flow, remove it and make sure trapped air has been released before refitting it.

The EQ6 Plus has separate cleaning and descaling programmes as well as calc'nClean, which combines both operations. When cleaning and descaling become due around the same time, the machine can suggest calc'nClean automatically. The complete programme takes approximately 43 minutes, so allow it to finish rather than interrupting it. Importantly, remove the water filter from the tank before starting the programme and follow each instruction shown on the display.

Slow, weak or intermittent coffee from an EQ6 Plus can come from several areas. Check the grind setting and beans first, then the beverage outlet, brewing unit and water filter. A blocked beverage dispenser or milk-system intake can restrict delivery, while a badly seated, old or airlocked filter can cause water-flow problems. The manual specifically instructs users to immerse an airlocked filter in water until no more air bubbles escape before refitting it. If flow gradually deteriorated rather than stopping suddenly, scale and coffee contamination should also be considered before assuming the pump itself has failed.
