  • Use baristaMode when you want to fine-tune your coffee

    The EQ900 has both comfortMode and baristaMode. baristaMode unlocks additional drink adjustments, including contact time, so it's the better place to fine-tune a coffee rather than immediately changing several unrelated settings.

    For milk drinks, the machine can also individually adjust strength, drink quantity, milk ratio, grinding level, contact time and brewing temperature.

  • Use the eGrinder rather than looking for a manual grinder dial

    The EQ900 uses electronic grinding level adjustment – eGrinder. If coffee only comes out drop by drop, or is thin with too little crema, the grinding level can be adjusted electronically.

    This is an important difference from Siemens machines that use a conventional mechanical grinder adjustment.

  • Set the water hardness correctly

    The EQ900 uses its water-hardness setting to determine when descaling is required. The manual provides four hardness levels and includes a test strip for checking your water supply.

    An incorrect setting can result in maintenance reminders appearing earlier or later than they should.

  • Change the water filter within two months

    If you're using the INTENZA filter, don't simply wait indefinitely for a problem to appear. The EQ900 manual specifies changing the filter after two months at the latest, while also following any earlier display notification.

    A correctly maintained filter reduces limescale and can reduce how frequently the machine needs descaling.

  • Use the correct beans

    The EQ900 is designed for pure roasted coffee or espresso beans. Avoid glazed, caramelised or sugar-treated beans, as these can cause problems inside the grinder.

    On EQ900 variants equipped with two bean containers, two different coffees can be loaded and the active container is indicated by its LED.

  • Don't judge the machine by the first coffee after maintenance

    After initial setup, a service programme or a long period without use, the first drink may not have its full aroma. The manual specifically advises against drinking this first beverage.

    After a few preparations, the EQ900 should begin producing a more stable, fine-pored crema.

  • Why is my Siemens EQ900 coffee coming out too slowly?

    Start with the eGrinder setting. The EQ900 manual specifically identifies coffee dispensing only drop by drop as a reason to adjust the grinding level.

    A grind that's too fine creates greater resistance through the coffee puck and can substantially slow the pour. Make a small electronic adjustment rather than making several large changes at once, then assess the result over subsequent drinks.

    If the problem remains, maintenance and water-flow issues should also be investigated rather than continuing to make the grind increasingly coarse.

  • What's the difference between comfortMode and baristaMode on the EQ900?

    comfortMode provides the more straightforward everyday preparation experience.

    baristaMode gives you greater control over individual drinks. Depending on the beverage, this includes coffee strength, quantity, milk ratio, grinding level, contact time and brewing temperature.

    If you're trying to dial in a particular bean or espresso recipe, baristaMode is the mode to use.

  • Why does my EQ900 rinse when I switch it on and off?

    This is normal operation.

    The EQ900 automatically rinses when switching on and off. When switching off, it can also release steam into the drip tray as part of the cleaning process.

    There are circumstances where it won't perform the rinse — for example, if the machine is still warm when switched on or no beverage has been prepared before it is switched off.

  • Siemens EQ900 Appliance Not Responding

    If the Siemens EQ900 stops responding, disconnect the machine from the power supply and wait approximately 60 seconds before reconnecting it. This resets the electronics and often resolves temporary software faults. If the problem persists after restarting, further investigation or professional support may be required.

  • Siemens EQ900 Only Dispensing Water

    If the machine dispenses water instead of coffee, check that coffee beans are present in the bean hopper. The machine may not detect an empty bean container immediately. A blocked coffee shaft or contaminated brewing unit can also prevent coffee production. Remove and clean the brewing unit thoroughly. Oily coffee beans may fail to feed correctly into the grinder, so consider switching to a less oily coffee blend and cleaning the bean hopper.

  • Siemens EQ900 Not Producing Milk Froth

    Poor or absent milk froth is usually caused by a blocked or dirty milk system. Remove and clean all milk components thoroughly. Ensure the milk tube is fully submerged in milk and that sufficient milk is available. Heavy limescale build-up within the machine can also affect milk performance and may require a full descaling programme.

  • Siemens EQ900 No Milk Intake

    If the machine is not drawing milk, check that the milk system has been assembled correctly. The milk system should be fitted before connecting the milk container. Verify that the milk tube is properly immersed in milk and that there are no kinks or blockages restricting flow.

  • Siemens EQ900 Milk Froth Too Cold

    Cold milk froth is normally caused by using excessively chilled milk. For improved results, use refrigerated milk that has been allowed to warm slightly before use.

  • Water tank showing empty when it contains water

    Remove the tank and refit it carefully. Check that it contains fresh, non-carbonated water and inspect the tank/filter installation.

    If the problem appeared after changing the water filter, check that the filter has been installed and commissioned correctly.

  • Siemens EQ900 Not Dispensing Drinks

    If no drinks are dispensed, air may be trapped inside the water filter. Remove the filter and immerse it in water until no air bubbles remain before reinstalling. Thoroughly clean the water tank and ensure there are no descaling solution residues blocking water flow.

  • Siemens EQ900 Grinder Not Working

    If the grinder fails to operate, the machine may have overheated. Disconnect the appliance from the mains supply and allow it to cool for approximately one hour before attempting operation again.

  • Siemens EQ900 Grinder Not Grinding Beans

    When the bean hopper is full but no grinding occurs, oily coffee beans are often the cause. Gently tap the bean hopper to encourage bean movement. Switching to a less oily coffee blend and cleaning the hopper may restore normal grinding performance.

  • Siemens EQ900 Coffee Dispensing Slowly

    Slow coffee flow is commonly caused by a grinding level that is set too fine. Adjust the grinder to a coarser setting and test again. Limescale deposits, trapped air within the water filter, or a dirty brewing unit can also restrict flow and should be addressed through cleaning and maintenance.

  • Siemens EQ900 Coffee Has No Crema

    Poor crema can result from stale beans, an unsuitable coffee blend or incorrect grinder settings. Fresh beans with a higher Robusta content generally produce better crema. Adjust the grinder to a finer setting if the coffee appears weak or lacks body.

  • Siemens EQ900 Coffee Tastes Too Acidic

    Acidic coffee is often caused by a grinding level that is too coarse or a coffee blend that is lightly roasted. Adjust the grinder to a finer setting and consider trying a darker roasted coffee.

  • Cleaning the EQ900 Milk System

    Milk residue is one of the first places to look when an EQ900 begins producing poor-quality foam.

    The illustrated instructions at the beginning of the manual show the milk system being removed from behind the beverage outlet, dismantled into its individual components and cleaned before reassembly. The milk container itself can also be dismantled for cleaning.

    For reliable milk performance:


    • Clean milk-contact components regularly.

    • Remove and clean the milk tube.

    • Separate removable milk-system components rather than only rinsing the outside.

    • Make sure small milk and air passages remain clear.

    • Reassemble the components correctly before refitting them.

    • Don't leave milk residue to dry inside the system.

    The manual also notes that if the milk system has not been cleaned, small amounts of milk can escape when dispensing hot water.

  • Adjusting the Siemens EQ900 Grinder

    The EQ900 is different from many conventional bean-to-cup machines because it uses an electronic eGrinder.

    You can access grinding level as one of the beverage parameters. In baristaMode, it sits alongside adjustments including strength, quantity, milk ratio, contact time and temperature.

    Coffee pouring too slowly?

    Try a coarser grinding level.

    Coffee thin or crema poor?

    Try adjusting towards a finer grinding level, while avoiding an excessively fine setting that causes the coffee to dispense only in drops.

    Make small adjustments and assess the coffee rather than jumping between extreme settings.

  • Changing the Siemens EQ900 Water Filter

    The EQ900 supports an INTENZA water filter. The manual lists the filter as TZ70003, with a three-filter pack listed as TZ70033A.

    To install a filter:


    1. Open the machine settings.

    2. Select INTENZA filter.

    3. Follow the instructions shown on the EQ900 display.

    4. Allow the machine to complete the filter setup procedure.

    To replace an existing filter:


    1. Open the settings.

    2. Select INTENZA filter.

    3. Choose Replace.

    4. Follow the instructions on screen.

    The manual specifies replacing the filter after two months at the latest and also following the machine's display messages.

    If the machine hasn't been used for an extended period, the manual recommends rinsing the filter before returning to normal use by dispensing a cup of hot water.
