quick tips

  • Let the machine complete its automatic rinse

When the Magnifica Duo switches on and reaches operating temperature, allow its automatic rinse cycle to finish before making your first drink. Keep the drip tray correctly fitted and avoid interrupting the start-up sequence. If the machine has been unused for several days, running an additional rinse before making coffee can help flush the internal coffee circuit.

  • Adjust the grinder gradually

If espresso is dispensing too slowly, only dripping or producing very little coffee, the grind may be too fine. If it pours extremely quickly and tastes weak, it may be too coarse. Make grinder changes gradually and assess the result over several coffees rather than continually changing the setting. Avoid making large adjustments at once.

  • Keep the removable brewing unit clean

The brewing unit sits behind the water tank and should be removed periodically for cleaning. Switch the machine off correctly before removing it, rinse the brewer under running water and allow it to drain before refitting. Do not force the brewing unit out if it will not release—the machine may not have returned it to its correct resting position.

  • Clean the milk system after milk drinks

The Magnifica Duo's milk system needs regular attention because dried milk can quickly restrict the air and milk passages. Follow the cleaning procedure after preparing milk drinks and periodically dismantle the removable milk components for a more thorough clean. If milk suddenly becomes flatter, hotter or less consistent, cleaning should be one of the first checks.

  • Don't ignore changes in water flow

A gradually slower rinse, reduced hot-water delivery or coffee beginning to dispense in drops can indicate restriction from scale, the water filter, coffee deposits or an excessively fine grind. Deal with the change early rather than waiting until the machine stops dispensing altogether.

  • Follow the machine when it requests maintenance

The Magnifica Duo monitors maintenance requirements and will prompt for procedures such as descaling and other routine operations. Complete the guided procedure rather than simply clearing or repeatedly postponing the message. Interrupting a maintenance programme can leave the machine requiring the sequence to be completed before normal operation resumes.

FAQ's

  • Why isn't the Bean Switch System rotating properly on my De'Longhi Rivelia?

The Bean Switch System can become difficult to rotate if coffee dust or oily beans build up around the carousel and hopper connection. Remove the bean hopper, brush away any loose coffee grounds and wipe the carousel area clean before refitting it. Using medium-roast beans rather than very oily dark roasts helps prevent the mechanism from sticking and keeps the hopper rotating smoothly.

  • How often should I descale my De'Longhi Rivelia?

Descale your Rivelia whenever the machine prompts you to do so, or approximately every 6–8 weeks if you are not using a water filter. If a De'Longhi DLS C002 water filter is fitted and replaced regularly, descaling is typically only required every 3–4 months. Always use a lactic acid descaler such as De'Longhi EcoDecalk, complete the full guided descaling programme and avoid using vinegar.

  • LatteCrema milk system working properly?

For the best milk foam and hygiene, run the automatic Milk Clean cycle after every milk-based drink. Wash the milk lid and dispensing spouts regularly, use a dedicated milk system cleaner each week to remove hidden milk residues, and keep the milk components clean to prevent blockages and poor frothing performance. Regular cleaning helps maintain consistent foam quality and extends the life of the LatteCrema system.

fault codes

  • Fill water tank — There is insufficient water available for the selected operation. Fill the tank with fresh water and make sure it is pushed fully into position.

Insert water tank — The tank is missing or has not been seated correctly. Remove it and refit it firmly.

Empty grounds container — Used coffee grounds have reached the machine's monitored limit. Empty the grounds container and clean it before refitting.

Insert grounds container / drip tray — One or both components are missing or incorrectly positioned. Assemble them correctly and push the drip tray completely into the machine.

Fill bean container — The machine cannot prepare a bean-to-cup drink because there are insufficient coffee beans. Refill the hopper and try again.

  • Additional Troubleshooting Messages

Coffee too fine / adjust grinder — Water is struggling to pass through the coffee puck. A very fine grinder setting can contribute, but also check the water supply and whether the machine can dispense hot water normally.

Water circuit empty — Water has not completely filled the internal hydraulic circuit. Make sure the tank contains water and is correctly installed, then follow the displayed procedure to refill the circuit.

Descale required — The machine has reached its calculated descaling point. Run the complete descaling programme rather than simply continuing to dismiss the warning.

Replace water filter — The fitted filter has reached its replacement point. Fit a new compatible filter and register the replacement through the machine's filter procedure.

  • General alarm — The machine has detected a condition it cannot resolve through a normal user prompt. Clean the accessible internal areas, make sure the brewing unit and removable components are correctly installed and restart the machine. If the message remains, further diagnosis may be required.

  • Why is my De’Longhi Magnifica Duo dispensing coffee very slowly?

First determine whether the restriction affects coffee only or all water delivery. Try a rinse or hot-water delivery. If water flows normally but coffee only drips from the spouts, concentrate on the coffee side of the machine: an excessively fine grinder setting, very high coffee dose or restricted coffee outlet are more likely.

If hot water and rinsing are also unusually slow, investigate the water tank, fitted filter, trapped air and scale before altering the grinder.

This distinction is useful because changing the grinder will not solve a restriction in the machine's water supply.

  • Why is my Magnifica Duo not frothing milk properly?

Start by thoroughly cleaning the milk-contact components. Milk residue can restrict extremely small air passages even when the main milk tube appears clear.

Dismantle the removable milk-system components, clean the milk intake and outlet passages and reassemble everything carefully. Also use cold milk suitable for frothing and make sure the milk container has been correctly fitted.

If the machine is producing milk but the texture has gradually deteriorated, contamination or restriction within the milk system is considerably more useful to investigate first than an internal machine fault.

  • Why won't the brewing unit come out of my Magnifica Duo?

The brewing unit can only be removed when it has returned to the correct parked position.

If the machine has been switched off incorrectly, unplugged while operating or interrupted during a cycle, the brewer may remain in a position where its retaining mechanism cannot release normally.

Do not pull harder on it. Refit the water tank and other required components, power the machine normally and then switch it off using its normal control. Once the shutdown movement has finished, remove the tank and try releasing the brewing unit again.
