Gaggia cadorna
Quick Tips
Coffee not dispensing? Check the brew group and coffee outlet
If the Cadorna grinds the beans but little or no coffee reaches the cup, remove and clean the brew group and check the coffee outlet duct for compacted ground coffee. The machine specifically reports Error 01 when the grinder/coffee outlet duct is clogged. Switch the machine off and unplug it before removing the brew group or clearing the outlet duct.
Error 05 or no water flow? Check for air in the circuit
Error 05 indicates a problem with the water circuit and the manual identifies trapped air as a possible cause. Remove and correctly refit the water tank a couple of times and make sure the tank seating area is clean. If an INTENZA+ filter is installed, remove it, shake/prime it to release trapped air and reinstall it.
After first installation or a long period without use, the Cadorna should also have its water circuit primed using the manual rinse procedure.
Brew group difficult to remove or refit? Check its position
Errors 03 and 04 are associated with the Cadorna brew group. The group may be dirty, insufficiently lubricated or incorrectly positioned. Switch the machine off using its power button before removing the group. Clean it thoroughly and check that it is correctly positioned before reinstalling it.
Coffee running too quickly or slowly? Adjust the grinder carefully
The Cadorna has an adjustable grinder, but grinder changes should be made gradually. A finer setting increases resistance through the coffee puck, while a coarser setting allows faster extraction. Make small adjustments and brew several coffees before deciding whether another adjustment is necessary.
Also allow a new machine time to settle: the Cadorna manual recommends brewing five coffees initially so the machine can complete its self-adjustment.
Weak milk foam? Clean the Classic Pannarello
The Cadorna Style/Plus uses a Classic Pannarello rather than the automatic milk carafe fitted to some other Cadorna versions. Milk deposits in the Pannarello or steam tube can reduce steam flow and frothing performance, so keep its removable components clean.
For best frothing results, the manual recommends cold milk at approximately 5°C with at least 3% protein.
Don't ignore the water-hardness and filter settings
The Cadorna uses its water-hardness setting as part of its maintenance configuration. The supplied test strip is immersed for one second, then read after one minute. The machine has four hardness settings.
If an INTENZA+ filter is fitted, it must also be activated through CLEAN/SETTING → SETTINGS → WATER FILTER. Simply fitting a new cartridge without registering it in the machine is not the complete replacement procedure.
faq's
Why is my Gaggia Cadorna grinding beans but not dispensing coffee?
Start by checking the brew group and coffee path. A dirty brew group can restrict extraction, while compacted ground coffee can obstruct the coffee outlet duct. The Cadorna's Error 01 specifically identifies a clogged grinder/coffee outlet duct and instructs the user to remove the brew group and thoroughly clean the outlet duct. If the coffee is dispensing but extremely slowly, also check whether the grind has been set excessively fine.
What does Error 05 mean on a Gaggia Cadorna?
Error 05 indicates a water-circuit problem, commonly caused by air trapped in the hydraulic circuit. Remove and reinstall the water tank, check that its seating area is clean and make sure the tank is properly engaged. If an INTENZA+ filter is fitted, remove it and release trapped air before reinstalling it. If the machine has been unused for an extended period, performing the manual rinse/priming procedure can also help restore the water circuit.
Why won't the brew group go back into my Gaggia Cadorna?
The brew group needs to be in its correct resting position before it can be reinstalled. Don't force it into the machine. Check the group is clean, correctly assembled and properly positioned. Errors 03 and 04 can appear when the group is dirty, insufficiently lubricated or incorrectly positioned. The Cadorna also requires periodic brew-group lubrication, so a dry or stiff mechanism should be cleaned and lubricated according to the maintenance procedure.

Change the Gaggia Cadorna INTENZA+ Water Filter
The Cadorna is designed for the INTENZA+ water filter. Before installation, immerse the cartridge vertically in cold water with its opening upwards and gently squeeze its sides to release trapped air.
Set the filter to match the measured water hardness, install it in the tank and then select CLEAN/SETTING → SETTINGS → WATER FILTER to activate it. When the filter expires, the Cadorna displays “Filter expired, replace or disable it”. Select REPLACE after installing a new cartridge, or DISABLE if the machine is being used without one.
How to Clean the Gaggia Cadorna Brew Group
- Switch the Cadorna off and disconnect the power cord.
- Remove the coffee pucks container and open the service door.
- Remove the coffee residues drawer.
- Press the PUSH lever on the brew group while pulling the brew group's handle to remove it.
- Rinse the brew group thoroughly using lukewarm water, paying particular attention to coffee residue around the filters and moving parts.
