HOW TO CLEAN A GAGGIA ANIMA MILK SYSTEM

Gaggia Anima models fitted with the integrated milk carafe need regular cleaning to prevent milk residue building up inside the dispensing system. The Anima provides a quick-clean function after milk drinks, while the carafe also needs regular dismantling and a deeper monthly milk-circuit clean.

RUN THE QUICK CLEAN AFTER MILK DRINKS

After preparing a milk-based drink, the Gaggia Anima displays the milk-carafe cleaning symbol.

You have approximately 10 seconds to activate the cleaning cycle. Press OK while the cleaning symbol is displayed.

PLACE A CONTAINER UNDER THE MILK SPOUT

Place a suitable container beneath the milk dispensing spout. Make sure the milk dispensing spout is pulled out into its dispensing position.

Press OK when prompted. The machine dispenses hot water through the milk circuit to rinse it.

REMOVE AND EMPTY THE MILK CARAFE

For a more thorough clean, remove the milk carafe from the machine and empty any remaining milk.

Milk residue should not be allowed to remain inside the carafe and dispensing components for extended periods.

REMOVE THE CARAFE TOP

Remove the top of the milk carafe and take out the milk tube. Remove the milk dispensing spout from the carafe assembly.

Rinse the milk tube and dispensing spout thoroughly with lukewarm water to remove fresh milk residue.

DISASSEMBLE THE MILK DISPENSER WEEKLY

Once a week, carry out a more thorough clean of the milk dispensing system. Remove the milk dispensing assembly from the top of the carafe and carefully dismantle its removable components.

Separate the parts in the order shown in the Gaggia Anima manual. This exposes the internal areas of the dispenser where milk residue can collect.

CLEAN THE DISPENSING COMPONENTS

Wash the dismantled milk dispensing components thoroughly with lukewarm water. Check the milk passages and connection points for visible residue.

Allow the components to drain before carefully reassembling the dispensing unit and refitting it to the milk carafe.

COMPLETE THE MONTHLY MILK CIRCUIT CLEAN

Once a month, clean the internal milk circuit using a suitable milk circuit cleaning product.

Add the milk circuit cleaner to the milk carafe and fill the carafe with water up to the MAX level, following the instructions supplied with the cleaning product.

SELECT MILK FROTH

Insert the milk carafe into the machine and position a suitable container beneath the milk dispensing spout.

Press MENU and select DRINKS. Scroll to MILK FROTH and press OK. The machine will begin drawing the cleaning solution through the milk circuit.

CONTINUE UNTIL THE CARAFE IS EMPTY

Repeat the MILK FROTH operation until the cleaning solution has been drawn through the milk circuit and the carafe is empty.

Empty the collection container as necessary during the procedure.

RINSE THE MILK CARAFE

Remove the carafe and rinse it thoroughly to remove the milk cleaning solution.

Fill the carafe with fresh drinking water up to the MAX level and reinstall it in the machine.

RINSE THE INTERNAL MILK CIRCUIT

Select MENU, then DRINKS and MILK FROTH again. Allow the fresh water to run through the milk circuit.

Repeat the fresh-water rinse as instructed so that the cleaning product is completely flushed from the milk system.

DISMANTLE AND RINSE THE CARAFE

After completing the internal rinse, remove the milk carafe and dismantle the milk dispensing components.

Rinse the parts thoroughly with fresh water, reassemble the milk dispenser and refit the carafe. The milk system is now ready for normal use.

How often should I clean the Gaggia Anima milk system?
Use the Anima's quick milk-circuit clean after preparing milk drinks. The milk carafe and dispensing system also require regular manual cleaning, with the dispensing assembly dismantled for a more thorough weekly clean and the internal milk circuit deep-cleaned monthly.
