how to descale de'longhi magnifica

  • Step 1. Before You Start

    Make sure you have:

    • 100 ml of suitable coffee-machine descaler
    • Fresh water
    • An empty container with a capacity of at least 1.8 litres
    • Approximately 45 minutes to allow the complete programme and rinses to finish

Do not interrupt the machine once the descaling programme is underway unless necessary.

Important: Hot water containing descaling solution will be discharged during the procedure. Keep your hands away from the outlets and avoid contact with splashes.

  • Step 2. Remove the Water Filter

When Remove filter appears on the display:

    1. Remove the water tank.
    2. Remove the water-softener filter if one is installed.
    3. Empty the water tank completely.
    4. Press OK.

Keep the filter somewhere clean because it will be refitted during the later rinse stage.

If your Dinamica does not have a water filter fitted, simply follow the prompts and continue.

  • Step 3. Add the Descaler and Water

Look inside the Dinamica water tank. You should see the A and B level markings used for descaling.

Pour 100 ml of descaler into the empty tank until it reaches level A.

Next, add approximately 1 litre of fresh water, bringing the solution up to level B.

Refit the water tank to the machine and press OK.

Do not fill the tank with descaler alone. The descaler must be diluted with water as specified for this programme.

  • Step 4. Empty the Drip Tray and Grounds Container

When the Dinamica displays Empty drip tray:

    1. Remove the drip tray.
    2. Empty the drip tray.
    3. Empty the coffee grounds container.
    4. Refit both components correctly.
    5. Press OK.

The machine may briefly perform a cooling process before moving on to the next stage. This can be normal.

  • Step 5. Position a 1.8 Litre Container

The display will ask you to place a container beneath the outlets.

Use an empty container with a capacity of at least 1.8 litres.

Position it underneath both the coffee spouts and cappuccino/hot-water outlet so that it can collect the liquid discharged during descaling.

    Press OK.

Take care: the liquid coming from the machine will be hot and contains descaling solution.

  • Step 6. Let the Dinamica Complete the Descaling Stage

The display will show that descaling is underway.

The Dinamica now automatically pumps the descaling solution through its internal water circuit. Liquid is discharged through the machine's outlets while the programme performs a series of automatic rinses and pauses.

You do not need to operate the machine during this part of the procedure.

Do not remove the water tank or collection container unless instructed by the display.

The main descaling stage takes approximately 35 minutes before the machine moves on to the fresh-water rinse.

  • Step 7. Rinse and Refill the Water Tank

When the Dinamica asks you to rinse the tank and fill it with water, the descaling-solution stage has finished.

    1. Remove the collection container and empty the used descaling solution.
    2. Remove the water tank.
    3. Empty any remaining solution.
    4. Rinse the tank thoroughly under running water.
    5. Fill the tank with fresh water all the way to the MAX level.
    6. Refit the tank.
    7. Press OK.

Filling to MAX is important because insufficient rinse water can cause the Dinamica to request an additional rinse later.

  • Step 8. Start the First Fresh-Water Rinse

Empty the 1.8 litre container and place it back underneath the outlets.

When the display asks you to confirm rinsing, press OK.

The Dinamica will begin flushing fresh water through the internal circuit.

Hot water is discharged from the coffee spouts first and then through the cappuccino/hot-water outlet.

Allow the programme to continue until the machine tells you to proceed.

  • Step 9 — Refill the Water Tank Again

Once the water used for the first rinse has been consumed:

    1. Empty the collection container.
    2. Remove the water tank.
    3. Fill the tank again with fresh water to the MAX level.
    4. Refit the tank.
    5. Press OK.

Do not end the procedure after the first rinse. The Dinamica uses another rinse stage to help remove remaining descaling solution from the internal circuit.

  • Step 10 — Refit the Water Filter

If you removed a water-softener filter at the beginning of the procedure, the display will now ask you to reinstall it.

Insert the filter back into its housing inside the water tank and make sure it is correctly seated.

Refit the water tank and press OK.

If your Dinamica does not use a water filter, continue according to the instructions shown on its display.

  • Step 11 — Complete the Second Rinse

Empty the 1.8 litre collection container again and place it underneath the cappuccino/hot-water outlet.

Press OK when the Dinamica asks you to confirm the rinse.

The machine will begin the second rinse and discharge hot water through the outlet.

Allow this process to finish automatically.

  • Step 12 — Empty the Drip Tray

At the end of the second rinse, the display will ask you to empty the drip tray.

    1. Remove the drip tray.
    2. Empty it.
    3. Empty the coffee grounds container.
    4. Refit both components.
    5. Press OK.

Don't be concerned if there is some water inside the coffee grounds container after descaling. This can occur during the programme.

  • Complete the Descaling Programme

The Dinamica should now display Descale complete.

    Press OK.

    When Fill tank appears:

    1. Remove the water tank.
    2. Fill it with fresh water to the MAX level.
    3. Refit it to the machine.

Your De'Longhi Dinamica has now completed the descaling programme and can return to normal use.
