WHAT YOU'LL NEED

A suitable coffee machine descaler, fresh drinking water and a container with a capacity of at least 2 litres.

01

OPEN THE SETTINGS MENU

Switch the Eletta Explore on and allow it to become ready. From the homepage, press the settings menu icon.

02

SELECT DESCALING

Scroll through the settings until Descaling is displayed. Press Start to enter the guided descaling procedure, then press Start again to begin.

03

FIT THE WATER SPOUT

Insert the removable hot water spout into its connection on the front of the machine when prompted.

04

EMPTY THE DRIP TRAY AND GROUNDS CONTAINER

Remove and empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container. Refit both correctly and press Next.

05

REMOVE THE WATER FILTER

Remove the water tank and lift its lid. If a water filter is fitted, remove it and put it safely to one side. Empty the water tank completely.

06

ADD DESCALER AND WATER

Pour 100 ml of descaler into the water tank up to level A. Add 1 litre of fresh water up to level B. Refit the tank lid, return the tank to the machine and press Next.

ENGINEER'S NOTE

Use the A and B markings inside the Eletta Explore water tank rather than estimating the mixture. Do not leave the water filter fitted while the descaling solution is in the tank.

07

POSITION A LARGE CONTAINER

Place an empty container with a capacity of at least 2 litres beneath the coffee and hot water spouts. Make sure it is positioned to collect water from both outlets.

08

START THE DESCALING CYCLE

Press Next. The Eletta Explore will begin the automatic descaling programme, passing descaling solution through the hot water and coffee circuits.

The machine will automatically pause and continue through different stages. Do not interrupt the programme or remove the container while water is being delivered.

09

PREPARE FOR THE FIRST RINSE

When the descaling stage has finished, empty the collection container. Remove the water tank, empty away any remaining solution and rinse the tank thoroughly under running water.

Fill the tank with fresh drinking water up to the MAX level, refit it to the machine and press Next.

10

RUN THE FIRST RINSE

Return the empty 2-litre container beneath the spouts and press Next. Fresh water will be delivered through the hot water and coffee spouts to rinse the internal circuits.

11

REFIT THE WATER FILTER

When the first rinse has finished and the water tank is empty, remove the tank. Refit the water filter that was removed before descaling, then press Next.

12

REFILL FOR THE SECOND RINSE

Fill the water tank again with fresh drinking water up to the MAX level. Refit the tank and press Next.

13

RUN THE SECOND RINSE

Empty the collection container, return it beneath the spouts and press Next. Allow the second automatic rinsing cycle to run until the machine indicates that it has finished.

14

EMPTY THE DRIP TRAY

Once the second rinse has finished, empty the collection container. Remove and empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container, then refit them correctly.

15

REFILL AND COMPLETE

Remove the water tank, fill it with fresh drinking water up to the MAX level and return it to the machine. Press Next and then OK when the completion message appears.

The Eletta Explore will perform a short preheat cycle before returning to the homepage.

FAQ's

  • How long does it take to descale a De'Longhi Eletta Explore?

Allow around 50 minutes for the complete descaling procedure. The main descaling stage takes approximately 40 minutes, after which the Eletta Explore guides you through the rinsing stages. Avoid switching the machine off or interrupting the procedure once it has started.

  • Do I remove the water filter before descaling the Eletta Explore?

Yes. If a water filter is installed, remove it from the water tank before adding the descaling solution. The Eletta Explore will guide you through the rinsing process and prompt you to reinstall the filter after the first rinse, before continuing with the next rinse.

  • Why is my Eletta Explore asking for another rinse after descaling?

The Eletta Explore may request an additional rinse if there was not enough fresh water in the tank during the normal rinsing procedure. Fill the water tank to the MAX level when instructed. This gives the machine enough water to thoroughly flush the internal circuits and remove the remaining descaling solution.
