How to Descale a Sage Bambino

How to Descale a Sage Bambino

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

Warm water, a clean soft damp cloth, the cleaning tool supplied with your Sage Bambino, and your portafilter and filter basket.

01

REMOVE THE PORTAFILTER

Allow the machine to cool if it has just been used, then remove the portafilter from the group head. Remove the filter basket so the basket and portafilter can be cleaned separately.

02

RINSE THE PORTAFILTER & BASKET

Rinse the portafilter and filter basket thoroughly with warm water. Remove loose coffee grounds and residue, paying particular attention to the holes in the filter basket.

03

CHECK THE FILTER BASKET HOLES

Check the filter basket for holes blocked by fine coffee particles. If necessary, use the cleaning tool supplied with the Sage Bambino to carefully clear the blocked holes.

04

CLEAN AROUND THE GROUP HEAD

With the portafilter removed and the machine cool, wipe around the accessible group-head area with a clean damp cloth to remove loose coffee grounds and residue.

05

FLUSH THE GROUP HEAD

Run a short water-only extraction without coffee to help flush remaining loose particles from the brewing area.

06

RINSE, DRY & REFIT

Give the filter basket and portafilter a final rinse and make sure they are clean before refitting. Regular cleaning helps prevent coffee residue building up over repeated brewing sessions.

FAQ'S

FAQ'S

  • How often should I clean the Sage Bambino group head and portafilter?

Rinse the portafilter and filter basket regularly rather than allowing coffee residue to accumulate. If coffee flow becomes restricted or uneven, check the filter basket holes for trapped coffee particles.

  • How do I unblock a Sage Bambino filter basket?

Remove the basket from the portafilter and rinse it thoroughly. Check the small holes for trapped coffee particles and carefully use the cleaning tool supplied with the Bambino where necessary. The SES450 includes a cleaning tool intended for the filter baskets as well as the steam tip.

  • Is cleaning the Sage Bambino group head the same as descaling?

No. Cleaning the group head, portafilter and filter basket deals with coffee residue around the brewing components. Descaling deals with mineral build-up within the water system. The SES450 has its own documented Clean & Descale procedure.

Engineer Tip

If coffee from your Sage Bambino starts flowing unevenly or noticeably more slowly, check the filter basket before assuming there is a pump problem. Fine coffee particles can restrict the basket holes and reduce flow. Keep the basket, portafilter and group-head area clean as part of your normal coffee-making routine.
