quick tips

  • Clean the milk system every day

The E8 uses Jura's HP3 milk system and CX3 interchangeable milk spout. Daily milk system cleaning prevents blocked milk passages, poor foam quality and hygiene issues.

  • Replace the milk pipe every 3 months

Jura recommends replacing the milk hose approximately every three months to maintain hygiene and consistent milk frothing performance.

  • Use a CLARIS Smart filter

Using the CLARIS Smart RFID filter significantly reduces limescale build-up. When a filter is fitted correctly, the machine will normally not require descaling.

  • Never use oily or flavoured coffee beans

Caramelised, flavoured or very oily beans leave residue inside the AromaG3 grinder, increasing the risk of grinder faults and inconsistent coffee extraction.

  • Run the automatic cleaning programme when prompted

The Jura E8 will request a cleaning cycle after approximately 180 drinks or 80 switch-on rinses. Always complete the programme using genuine Jura cleaning tablets to protect the brewing system.

  • Check your water hardness during setup

Setting the correct water hardness allows the machine to calculate descaling intervals accurately, helping prevent thermoblock scaling, reduced temperature and water flow problems.

FAQ's

  • Why isn't my Jura E8 producing thick milk foam anymore?

The HP3 milk system or CX3 frother is usually blocked with dried milk residue. Perform the automatic milk cleaning programme, then dismantle and rinse the milk system thoroughly. Replacing worn milk pipes often restores proper foam quality.

  • Why does my Jura E8 only pour coffee very slowly?

A slow coffee flow is commonly caused by an excessively fine grinder setting or limescale restricting water flow. Select a slightly coarser grind and complete a descaling programme if your machine is not using a CLARIS Smart filter.

  • Does the Jura E8 need descaling if I use a CLARIS Smart filter?

Normally no. When the CLARIS Smart filter is installed and recognised by the machine, the E8 manages water quality through filtration instead of regular descaling. Simply replace the filter when prompted.

fault codes

  • Error 2 – Grinder Malfunction

Meaning: The grinder cannot rotate correctly.

    Common causes:

    • Oily or flavoured coffee beans
    • Foreign object inside the grinder
    • Grinder jam

    Recommended action:

    • Empty the bean hopper.
    • Remove any visible obstruction.
    • Use fresh, dry coffee beans.
    • If the fault remains, professional service is required.
  • Error 4 – Heating System Fault

Meaning: The machine cannot heat correctly.

    Common causes:

    • Heavy limescale
    • Thermoblock fault
    • Temperature sensor issue

    Recommended action:

    • Descale the machine if appropriate.
    • If the error returns after descaling, arrange servicing.
  • Low Temperature Protection

Meaning: The machine has become too cold to operate safely.

    Common causes:

    • Stored in a cold room or garage
    • Machine recently transported
  • Error 6 – Water System Pressure Fault

Meaning: Incorrect water pressure has been detected.

    Common causes:

    • Airlock
    • Blocked filter
    • Restricted water circuit

    Recommended action:

    • Refill and reseat the water tank.
    • Replace the CLARIS Smart filter if necessary.
    • Prime the water circuit.
  • Error 8 – General Internal Fault

Meaning: The machine has detected an internal electronic or mechanical fault.

    Common causes:

    • Electronic control issue
    • Sensor fault
    • Internal mechanical failure

    Recommended action:

    • Switch the machine off for several minutes.
    • Restart the machine.

    • If Error 8 returns, professional servicing is recommended.
  • Error 9 – Flow Meter Fault

Meaning: Water movement cannot be measured correctly.

    Common causes:

    • Air in the water system
    • Flow meter obstruction
    • Scale deposits

    Recommended action:

    • Refill the water tank.
    • Perform a rinse cycle.
    • Descale if required.
  • Error 11 – Low Temperature Fault

Meaning: The brewing system cannot reach operating temperature.

    Common causes:

    • Heavy limescale
    • Faulty temperature sensor
    • Cold operating environment

    Recommended action:

    • Warm the machine.
    • Complete a descaling cycle.

    • Service the machine if the fault persists.
  • Error 12 – Over Temperature Fault

Meaning: The machine has detected overheating.

    Common causes:

    • Temperature sensor failure
    • Steam circuit restriction
    • Internal overheating

    Recommended action:

    • Switch off the machine.
    • Leave it to cool for around 30 minutes.
    • If the error returns, professional repair is required.
  • Error 13 – Brew Unit Drive Blocked

Meaning: The brew unit cannot complete its movement.

    Common causes:

    • Compact coffee puck
    • Mechanical resistance
    • Drive mechanism wear

    Recommended action:

    • Restart the machine.
    • Run a cleaning programme.
    • If repeated, the brew drive requires servicing.
  • Error 14 – Brew Unit Position Fault

Meaning: The brew unit cannot calibrate its position correctly.

    Common causes:

    • Position sensor error
    • Brew drive fault
    • Mechanical obstruction

    Recommended action:

    • Restart the machine.
    • If Error 14 continues, professional repair is recommended.
