Quick Tips

Quick Tips

  • CHECK THE BUTTON LIGHTS BEFORE BREWING

When the machine is heating, both coffee buttons flash white. Once both lights remain steady white, the machine is ready to brew. You can also select your drink while the machine is heating; it will begin automatically once operating temperature has been reached.

  • NO WATER FLOW? CHECK THE TANK FIRST

If the machine stops dispensing because the water has run out, it can make up to five attempts before displaying the water warning. Refill the tank to MAX and press the previously selected coffee button to resume. If the tank contains water but the machine still will not dispense, check that the tank is seated correctly and consider scale build-up or a circuit that has failed to prime.

  • EMPTY THE USED-CAPSULE CONTAINER REGULARLY

After six drinks, both coffee buttons can begin flashing rapidly white to indicate that the used-capsule container is full. Empty the container and press either coffee button to reset the warning. Don't wait for the warning every time — periodically checking the capsule and drip trays helps prevent leaks and operating problems.

  • SLOW OR DRIPPING COFFEE CAN POINT TO SCALE

If coffee begins dispensing slowly or only in drops, first try a fresh capsule and run a cleaning flush through the coffee outlet. Persistent restricted flow can indicate scale inside the hydraulic circuit, particularly if the machine is also taking longer than normal to heat.

  • FLUSH THE COFFEE OUTLET WEEKLY

Run an Espresso Lungo without a capsule once a week to rinse the coffee outlet. The water tank should also be emptied, rinsed and refilled with fresh water every two or three days rather than leaving standing water in the machine.

  • DON'T IGNORE THE DESCALE WARNING

The SMEG has a dedicated descaling indication: the Espresso button alternates white and orange while the Espresso Lungo button remains steady white. Scale can cause restricted dispensing, slow heating and poor coffee temperature, so carry out the complete descaling and rinse cycle when the warning appears. The manual specifies descaling every 2–3 months and/or when dispensing becomes difficult.

  • Remember that Jolie Evo switches itself off quickly

The Jolie Evo's automatic switch-off occurs after approximately two minutes, compared with around nine minutes on the previous Jolie generation. If you return to the machine after leaving it unused and find it switched off, this can therefore be completely normal rather than a power fault. Restart it normally and allow it to complete its heating cycle.

FAQ's

FAQ's

  • Why are both buttons on my Lavazza A Modo Mio SMEG flashing quickly?

Rapidly flashing white lights on both coffee buttons indicate that the used-capsule container is full. Remove and empty the container, refit it correctly and press either coffee button to reset the machine. The warning is triggered after six dispensing cycles.

  • Why is my Lavazza A Modo Mio SMEG not dispensing coffee?

Start by checking that the water tank contains fresh water and is correctly installed. If the machine has lost its prime, repeating the start-up procedure may restore water flow. Restricted flow can also be caused by scale accumulation. If the buttons themselves are not operating normally, the problem may instead be electrical or mechanical.

  • Can I change the amount of coffee dispensed?

Yes. Insert a capsule and press and hold the Espresso or Espresso Lungo button. The selected button flashes and dispensing begins. Keep holding it until the required amount has been dispensed, then release the button to save that quantity. The minimum programmable quantity is 15 ml; the maximum is the amount the machine can dispense within 90 seconds.

  • Both Buttons Flashing White

When both coffee buttons are flashing white, the machine is heating. Wait until both buttons remain steadily illuminated white before brewing. Once the lights are steady, the machine has reached its operating temperature and is ready to use.

  • Both Buttons Steady White

Steady white lights on both the Espresso and Espresso Lungo buttons indicate that the machine is ready to brew. Insert a capsule, lower the lever and select the required drink.

  • One Button Steady White and the Other Flashing White

This combination can appear when the machine runs out of water during dispensing. Refill the water tank to the MAX level, then press the button that was originally selected. The button will begin flashing and the machine should resume dispensing.

  • Both Buttons Flashing Quickly White

Rapidly flashing white lights on both buttons indicate that the used-capsule container is full. Empty the used-capsule container, refit it correctly and press either coffee button to reset the machine. The warning normally occurs after six dispensing cycles.

  • Espresso Alternating White and Orange, Espresso Lungo Steady White

This is the descaling reminder. The machine has detected that a descaling cycle is due. The warning will reappear whenever the machine comes out of standby until the complete descaling procedure has been carried out.

  • Espresso Steady Orange and Espresso Lungo Flashing White

During the descaling procedure, this combination indicates that the descaling phase has finished and the machine is ready for rinsing. Rinse the water tank thoroughly, fill it to MAX with fresh water and continue with the rinse stage.

  • Espresso Flashing Orange and Espresso Lungo Off

If the Espresso button is flashing orange while the Espresso Lungo button remains off during normal operation, the manual identifies this as a machine fault rather than a routine maintenance warning. If the indication persists, the machine requires further diagnosis or service.

  • DESCALING

Scale builds naturally inside the water circuit and can eventually restrict water flow and affect heating. Your A Modo Mio SMEG has its own descaling warning and a dedicated automatic procedure that should be completed from beginning to end once started.

How to Descale a Lavazza A Modo Mio SMEG
  • CLEANING

Keep the removable capsule container, drip tray and cup support clean and run an Espresso Lungo without a capsule weekly to rinse the coffee outlet. Regular cleaning helps prevent old coffee residue and overflowing waste water from causing avoidable problems.

  • PROGRAMMING COFFEE QUANTITY

The standard drinks are Espresso 30 ml and Espresso Lungo 60 ml, but either button can be programmed to dispense a different quantity. This makes it easy to set the machine around your preferred cup and coffee length.
