FAQ's

  • How often should I descale my Lavazza coffee machine?

A useful domestic baseline is approximately every three months, although the appropriate interval depends on water hardness and usage. Hard water and frequent use can require more frequent descaling. If your particular Lavazza provides a maintenance indication, follow the machine's warning and its model-specific procedure.

  • Can I use vinegar to descale my Lavazza coffee machine?

Use a proper coffee-machine descaling product rather than household vinegar. A formulated descaler is designed to remove mineral deposits from coffee-machine water circuits without introducing the strong smell, taste and unpredictable concentration associated with vinegar.

  • What should I clean regularly on my Lavazza coffee machine?

Regularly empty and clean the drip tray and spent-capsule container, refresh and rinse the water tank, keep the capsule-loading area free from accumulated residue and clean any components that contact milk after use. Periodically complete the correct descaling procedure for your particular Lavazza model.

  • Descale according to your exact model

Don't assume every A Modo Mio machine uses the same descaling sequence.

The Deséa, Idola, Jolie, Tiny and other machines have different controls and operating sequences, so use the procedure written for your particular machine.

  • Don't wait for water flow to become restricted

Scale develops gradually. If the first sign that the machine needs maintenance is severely reduced water flow, the water circuit may already contain substantial deposits.

Regular preventative descaling is preferable to waiting until the machine struggles to dispense.

  • Empty used capsules regularly

Used capsules retain coffee and water.

Allowing them to accumulate increases the amount of moisture and coffee residue sitting inside the machine. Empty the capsule container regularly and clean the surrounding removable components.

  • Keep the water tank clean

Refresh the water regularly rather than continually topping up old water.

Remove and rinse the tank periodically and check that the tank and its connection remain clean. Correct tank installation is particularly important because several Lavazza troubleshooting procedures identify an incorrectly fitted tank as a cause of water-delivery problems.

  • Clean milk components immediately after use

If your Lavazza prepares milk drinks, don't leave milk residue until the next deep clean.

Milk deposits become more difficult to remove once dry. Cleaning the milk-contact components immediately after preparing drinks makes routine maintenance much easier.

  • Never clean the capsule mechanism with sharp objects

The capsule area contains the components responsible for holding and opening the capsule while hot water passes through it.

If a capsule becomes trapped, use the normal lever and capsule-ejection procedure. Don't insert knives, needles or other tools into the brewing mechanism.
