quick tips

  • Only fill a few days' worth of beans

For the best flavour, Melitta recommends only filling the bean hopper with enough beans for the next 3–4 days, helping preserve freshness and aroma.

  • Use fresh cold water every day

Fresh, still water improves coffee flavour. The manual also recommends fitting a PRO AQUA water filter where possible to reduce limescale and improve taste.

  • Keep the coffee outlet close to your cup

Adjust the height-adjustable coffee spout so it sits just above your cup. This helps reduce splashing and produces a better crema.

  • Rinse the milk system after every use

After frothing milk, flush the Cappuccinatore with clean water and regularly dismantle it for cleaning. Melitta also recommends using PERFECT CLEAN milk system cleaner

  • Empty both containers together

Whenever the drip tray indicator appears, empty both the drip tray and coffee grounds container together to reset the machine correctly.

  • Adjust coffee strength and volume to suit your taste

The Avanza allows three coffee strength settings and continuously adjustable drink volumes from approximately 25 ml to 220 ml, so you can fine-tune every cup.

FAQ's

  • Why is my Melitta Avanza asking for coffee beans when the hopper is full?

The beans may not be feeding into the grinder. Press a coffee button, gently tap the bean hopper, clean the hopper if necessary and avoid very oily coffee beans, as these can bridge above the grinder.

  • Can the Avanza make two coffees at once?

Yes. Press the 2 Cups button before starting the brew. The machine performs two grinding cycles to prepare two fresh coffees simultaneously.

  • How often should I clean and descale the machine?

The integrated cleaning and descaling programmes should be run whenever the corresponding indicator illuminates. Correct water hardness settings and using a PRO AQUA filter help ensure reminders occur at the right time.
