Miele Coffee Machine leaking water

Water leaks can appear in several different areas of a Miele coffee machine, and identifying where the leak starts is the first step towards finding the cause. Water collecting beneath the machine often points to an internal hose, seal or connection, while water inside the drip tray may simply be part of the normal rinsing process. If the amount of water seems excessive or is appearing somewhere unexpected, further investigation is worthwhile.

The drip tray should always be emptied regularly, as Miele coffee machines automatically rinse the coffee and milk circuits during start-up and shut-down. This routine cleaning sends water into the drip tray and can make it appear as though the machine is leaking when it is operating normally. If the tray fills unusually quickly, inspect it for cracks and make sure it is fully inserted.

A damaged or incorrectly fitted water tank can also cause leaks. Remove the reservoir and check for cracks, damaged seals or debris around the valve. Ensure the tank sits firmly in position, as even a slight misalignment can allow water to escape during brewing.

If water leaks while coffee is being prepared, the brew unit may require cleaning. Coffee oils and grounds can prevent the brewing chamber from sealing correctly, allowing water to bypass the coffee puck. Cleaning the brew unit and following Miele's recommended maintenance schedule helps maintain a proper seal.

The milk system should also be inspected if leaks occur during milk preparation. Loose milk pipes, worn connectors or blocked frothing components can cause milk or water to drip from the front of the machine. Regular cleaning of the milk system helps prevent blockages that can increase pressure and create leaks.

Internal seals and O-rings naturally wear over time. As rubber components age, they can become hard or cracked, allowing water to escape around pumps, valves and brewing components. If your Miele machine continues leaking after routine cleaning and maintenance, these seals may need replacing.

If the leak only occurs during descaling, check that the water tank is correctly fitted and that the descaling solution has been prepared according to Miele's recommendations. Overflowing containers or interrupted descaling cycles can also result in water appearing around the machine.

Persistent leaks from underneath the machine, particularly those accompanied by unusual noises or repeated fault messages, may indicate an internal component failure such as a hose, connector, valve or pump. In these cases, discontinue use until the source of the leak has been identified to help prevent further damage.
