NESPRESSO capsule not recognised

  • Check the capsule is compatible with your Nespresso machine (Original or Vertuo).
  • Remove the capsule and inspect it for damage or deformation.
  • Insert a new capsule and ensure it is seated correctly.
  • Check the lever closes fully and locks into position.
  • Remove any used capsule that may be stuck inside the brewing chamber.
  • Clean the capsule holder and brewing chamber to remove coffee residue.
  • Check the capsule piercing needles are clean and free from blockages.
  • Empty the used capsule container if it is full.
  • Ensure the water tank is full and correctly fitted.
  • Switch the machine off, wait 30 seconds, then restart it.
  • Run a rinse cycle without a capsule to flush the brewing system.
  • Descale the machine if descaling is overdue.
  • For Vertuo models, clean the barcode reader area and ensure the capsule rim is free from dirt or damage.
  • If the machine still does not recognise capsules, the capsule detection or brewing mechanism may require professional repair.
