My Coffee Machine Assist

quick tips

  • Use the Bean Hopper Auto Purge when changing coffee beans

When the machine requests Calc'nClean, complete the full programme without interruption. This combined cleaning and descaling cycle removes both coffee oils and limescale from the internal system, helping prevent blockages and brewing faults.

  • Adjust the grinder only while it is running

If your espresso pours too slowly or tastes weak, you can adjust the grinder.

Always turn the grind adjustment knob only while the grinder is operating. Making adjustments while stationary can damage the grinder mechanism.

  • Empty the drip tray and coffee grounds container together

Even if only one appears full, always empty and reinstall both components together.

The EQ500 monitors both parts, and leaving one behind can prevent brewing or trigger container warnings.

  • Clean the milk system every day

Milk residues quickly dry inside the milk tube and frother.

Run the automatic milk system rinse after making milk drinks, then regularly dismantle and wash the removable milk components in warm water.

  • Use fresh water every day

Replace the water in the tank daily.

Fresh, cold water improves coffee flavour and reduces mineral build-up inside the hydraulic system.

  • Don't ignore filter reminders

If you're using a Siemens INTENZA water filter, replace it when prompted and activate the new filter through the machine menu.

Doing this reduces limescale, improves coffee flavour and extends the interval between descaling programmes.

FAQ's

  • Why is my Siemens EQ500 asking for Calc'nClean?

    This is completely normal.

The EQ500 tracks brewing cycles and water usage. Once enough coffee has been prepared, it requests a maintenance programme to remove coffee oils and limescale.

Completing the programme promptly helps prevent heating issues, reduced flow and blocked brewing components.

  • Why has my coffee become weaker?

Usually one of four things is responsible:

    • Grinder setting has become too coarse.
    • Coffee beans are stale.
    • The brewing unit needs cleaning.
    • The machine is due a cleaning programme.

Cleaning the brew unit regularly and using fresh beans usually restores coffee quality.

  • Why does my EQ500 rinse every time it switches on or off?

This is a normal hygiene feature.

The automatic rinse cleans the coffee outlet and internal brewing system, helping prevent stale coffee residues from affecting flavour.

A small amount of water collecting in the drip tray after rinsing is expected.

  • Cleaning the Milk System

The EQ500 automatically reminds you to clean the milk system.

    For the best performance:

    • Run the automatic milk rinse after every milk drink.
    • Remove the milk tube regularly.
    • Wash all removable milk components in warm water.
    • Ensure air passages are completely clear before refitting.

    • Allow components to dry before reassembly.

Regular milk cleaning keeps foam quality high and helps prevent blockages.

  • Adjusting the Grinder

If coffee is pouring too slowly:

    • Select a slightly coarser grind.

If coffee tastes weak or has little crema:

    • Select a slightly finer grind.

Only adjust the grinder while it is actively grinding coffee. Small adjustments usually become noticeable after two or three cups.

  • Changing the Water Filter

The EQ500 supports the Siemens INTENZA water filter.

    To replace it:

    1. Remove the old filter.
    2. Fit the new filter into the water tank.
    3. Open the maintenance/settings menu.
    4. Select the filter replacement option.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    6. Allow the machine to rinse before making coffee.

Using the filter reduces limescale, improves taste and helps keep internal components cleaner.
